URD vs TRD Supercharger Info & Stats

This thread made me do some research on the 2 as far as which is better. It's really hard to compare the 2, like Deviant said they are 2 totally different units. Both offering major performance gains. I read talk about voided warranty with the URD unit, but then again you got a guy like Gadget backing you up. Could you ask for a person for support? Nope. I read how the TRD max boost stops earlier then the URD. But then again that can be corrected and you still have your warranty. There are Pros and Cons for both and there are allot of them. On top of that you have TRD fans and you got URD fans. So if you on the fence about getting boosted, I feel for ya. It's a tough call.

Yeah if someone said "you have to choose right now" it would be URD. I'm thinking Gadgets knowledge out ways warranty and dealership hassles. Plus I like to work on my own stuff if I can.

There again if you're on a road trip... any Toyota dealer can get you going with the TRD setup but you might not be so lucky with the URD... Not only that if you're still under warantee it costs you NADA.. Just a thought.

I am not so sure... I don't know if an aftermarket FI system will void warranty if it was subjecting the powertrain to the same boost conditions as the TRD blower.

I chose the TRD system due to cost, power gains, looks, ECU adaptability, and the iron clad hardware and install that comes with it. The quality of the TRD install and components is bar none the best I have seen to date. There is no foo-foo BS little problems, the install is clean, and it just looks like sex sitting on top of the motor.

Stock to Stock the URD puts down a little more HP but the TRD puts down more torque earlier in the powerband. I like the curve of the TRD unit much better; a roots blower and this truck is a very nice match.

Another reason was due to the transmission of this truck... They have a history and if one fails under anything but TRD boost, you have a lot of work on your hands...

Many TRD trucks are in the 13s or knocking on the door to them at stock 6 pounds boost...

Either way you go you wont regret boosting the X.

Sounds more like a question of a centrifugal design versus a roots design. TRD could have chosen a centrifugal design, but they went with a roots style instead. I'm sure they have good reasons for this, since a centrifugal design would have been a cheaper sell to the masses. Both have their advantages, it's just a question of what you're looking for.

lol I wasn't comparing to URD just stating why I chose the TRD kit. :top::driver:

The ECU compensates VERY well on its own with the TRD setup (and 6 new injectors). If you want or even need to tune with the TRD setup - URD and TTC provide a MAPECU2 piggy with a Plug N' Play harness.

The TRD is easily capable of being tunable like URD. With minor bolt ons or even with the addition of just a smaller pulley many have found their TRD setup AFRs to be sufficient since the ECU steps in to automatically compensate for the TRD setup. You may not even have to tune.

Both kits at this point in time are upgradeable and tunable to what I feel is currently the limit of our stock motors capability (with the goal of longevity as the mindset).

It comes down to price, powerband, looks, warranty, build quality, and advantages of one kit to the other.

What ever you do - Just get blown!

i have a roots blower on my car and the urd on my truck. i preffer the centrifugal blower because it's more like a turbo. they both are awesome and def make the truck feel like it should have. but the feeling of the urd boost after 3.5k rpms is like no other.:biggrin: besides a turbo

Im still leaning towards a URD when the time comes if ever. Warranty will not be an issue as i would mod trd kit anyways, and that will void the warranty just as much. besides, i dont really like the trd's whine that much. the URD is a lot more sleeper as well.

urd sounds like a jet coming down the road, with the grillecraft on if you throw a piece of paper in front of it the intake will suck it to the grill and hold it there :top:
