Sittin Sic HOW TO...

Due to the amount of discussion that has been going on about the time and people being unsure of weather or not they can do the installation themselves and save the cost of installation by a mechanic so here are the installatiojn direction. I will point out that I do not condone trying to install this kit without professional supervision or help!

Sittin Sic Coil Installation


IMPORATANT


Before attempting to remove and install any automotive coils it is important that you have the proper tools and facilities. Sittin Sic does not take responsibility for any negative effects or injury that may occur while removing or installing or there after ofthe Sittin Sic coil springs.


Sittin Sic strongly recommends that an ASE certified professional handles all removal and installation of the Sittin Sic coils.​

Removal of stock shock absorber and coils spring assembly​

• Disconnect negative battery terminal
• take the proper steps necessary to remove front wheel
• Separate skid control sensor
• Separate front flexible hose
• Remove front upper suspension arm
• Remove front shock absorber and coil spring assembly
  • Unbolt and remove the lower shock absorber nut, bolt and washer
  • On the top of the assembly there are three nuts and washers that surround the front support sub-assembly retainer nut. Do not remove the retainer nut only the three surrounding nuts and washers
  • Remove the assembly

Important


Do not attempt unless you have spring compressor properly mounted onto the spring to avoid damage and injury.


Note:


Do not use an impact wrench in any of the following steps​

• Remove the front support from front shock absorber nut
  • Using the proper spring compressor compress the coil
  • While holding the shock absorber rod remove the nut
• Remove front shock absorber cushion retainer
• Remove front shock absorber cushion
• Remove front suspension support sub-assembly
• Remove front coil spring insulator upper
• remove front shock absorber cushion retainer
• remove front coil spring

Reassembly of shock and coil assembly


Important


Do not attempt unless you have spring compressor properly mounted onto the spring to avoid damage and injury.


Note:


Do not use an impact wrench in any of the following steps


Make sure that the front drivers side coil that is identified by the tag is installed on the drivers side.​

• Install Sittin Sic front coils
  • IF necessary compress the Sittin Sic coils (due to the reduction in height of the coils compression may not be necessary)
  • Install front coil spring onto the shock absorber. Fit the lower end of the front spring into the gap of the lower seat
• Install shock absorber cushion retainer
• Install coil spring insulator
• Install suspension support sub-assembly
  • Be sure that the bolts line up with the upper mount holes
• Install cushion
• Install cushion retainer
• Install support to shock absorber nut
  • Fit and tighten the lock nut (preferably new). Torque to 20ftlbs
  • Release coil spring while checking the position of the suspension support sub-assembly

Installation​

• Temporarily tighten shock absorber with coil
  • Drivers side

i. Install onto the body with the lower end of the spring facing the outer side of the truck

• • Passenger side

i. Install onto the body with the lower end of the spring facing the inner side of the truck

• • Install three nuts and washers onto the upper side of the shock absorber with coil. Torque to 47ftlbs
  • Temporarily tighten the lower shock mount nut, bolt and washer

i. Temporarily tighten supper suspension arm
ii. Reinstall flexible hose
iii. Reinstall skid control sensor wire
iv. Put the wheel back on
v. Lower and stabilize the suspension by bouncing the truck up and down several times
vi. Raise vehicle and remove wheel
vii. Fully tighten lower shock absorber mount nut, bolt, and washer. Torque to 61ftlbs
viii. Fully tighten upper suspension arm
ix. Reconnect negative battery cable

Align vehicle ASAP to avoid improper tire wear​

I just found out the wonderful news that I can rent a torque wrench from AutoZone :rockon:

So... anyone have the socket sizes I'm going to need for the front and rear? (so I don't have to go all the way home to check if I have them before stopping to get the spring compressor). Lowes is right across the street from work and I plan to knock this out tonight and get aligned tomorrow :biggrin:

17mm 19mm open end wrench and socket for both 10mm 12mm 14mm and open end wrench for those also i forget what else i used make sure you torque them really good also buy those tool kits that the bolts can go thur the socket and socket wrench for the 2" lowering blocks bc the ubolts are too long

Thanks, that's just what I needed... I already have the Kobalt socket set, but don't recall all the sizes. Do the U-bolts need trimming at all if I use those? I gotta get some wrenches.

i didnt trim mine but it was a bitch to put them on i had to make a tool to make it work..if you get that tool kit it will save you a headache and make things a lot faster and you wont need to trim :top:

Well... I'm sittin halfway sic right now. I rushed home from work to do as much as I can before the sun disappeared. Only snags I ran into are:

1. I printed the instructions and for some reason couldn't find them halfway through removing the stock spring assembly, so I didn't use them after that.

2. One tool I was missing was an adjustable wrench. I had to sprint to autozone and back since my truck was on jackstands. It's only about 5-6 blocks away. Lucky for me I'm a fairly healthy young man, lol. The adjustable wrench was necessary to get the retainer nut off the top of the spring/shock assembly. I sat there for like 20 minutes turning like a jackass expecting the thing to pop off and realized that maybe the boxed end shouldn't be turning along with the nut. So yeah, I'm a retard, but I figured it out. After trying several failed attempts with tools I had around, I just gave up and ran to the store.

3. Since I didn't have the instructions, I just pretty much took everything else apart and put em back together. I didn't drop the truck, bounce it up and down, do the hokey pokey, turn myself around or any of that stuff. I hope it doesn't matter cuz I don't really wanna do it all over again and I'm getting an alignment first thing in the morning.

4. Don't be afraid of the spring compressor. I was terrified of that thing and was moving all extra slow on the first spring. There's no need. Just make sure the contour of the compressor follows the contour of the spring and the pins are in there good before you tighten it down.

5. WEAR MECHANICS GLOVES: I get cut everytime I install something on my truck. This was no exception. I lost some skin trying to break nuts/bolts loose... It happens.

Conclusion: The install up front is very simple. Two hours is reasonable and it can actually be done faster. Mine came into a little under four including lots of wasted time and a jog to the store and back. I expect the rear should go fairly quickly tomorrow night. That's a pretty straightforward install.

Hehe... I had one of those little kid grins when I took the jack and jackstands out. I can't fully appreciate it because my truck is now filthier than I've EVER seen yours. :frown: Looks like it's not getting detailed for our trip on Friday because there's a slim to negative chance I wake up and do it on Friday morning :rolleyez:

I received my front coils yesterday. I did not realize they were progressively wound (which is good). I assume the small end goes up?
