to be honest gadget had the laptop, he told me to drive.... but i think he built in some timeing for safty.. Im sure he could tell you what he did..

Gimme some info here GADGET! what kind of tuning did you do to keep it safe? just AFR? whats safe? any timing modificatoins? Im highly considering going with that set up but i want some more info first. Where does the map ecu 2 mount and how is it installed? is it plug and play or do i have to cut a bunch of wires again? the urd page is pretty vague..:dontknow:

I have tuned a few of these TRD supercharged trucks now. To be honest each one was very different and the tune it needed to get it where I think it needs to be was very different.

ntinhri's truck was a special case. It was super lean. I originally tested it at a meet in MD I think last summer or fall. It was super lean then nearing 14:1 AFR at high load. How it did not blow up is amazing to me, how it made power is also amazing.

We some tuning, I could get it into the 13's but no richer. I then installed an additional injector system to attempt to get more fuel into it and it made little difference. It was clear at that point there was fuel flow problem and we installed the URD fuel pump/filter upgrade. Then there was enough fuel available to allow more tuning. After a lot of hard work we were able to get him into the 11's in AFR.

This and a few other trucks seem to have a bad lean spot right as it transitions into boost. By dialing in some fuel in the midrange we were able to bring in the part throttle midrange power and torque. This change is very noticeable and it is where you normally drive the truck.

Other trucks were very different in the tune they needed. I will admit I have been very surprised so far at the wide variations in the way these trucks run and the tune they end up needing to correct for things.

What I would like to do is to tune a truck with the TRD supercharger that does not have the TRD ECU reflash. If anyone near me wants to try that let me know. It should be interesting.

Anyway, like I said each truck is different and if you follow the U-Tune Guide you can work through the entire range and correct for most everything that is not as it should be.

Gadget, you ever think about checking out the Anchorage area?

Hell...I would buy a new ECU JUST so you could tune it if I lived at least a 1000 miles closer.

I've been looking at the fuel pump upgrade from URD. Would I benefit from it with just the charger and the TRD CAI? I do have plans of getting a set of DT headers and an O2 sim along with an exhaust. Currently I am showing 11.7 AFR at about 90% throttle under boost. I didn't get to do a WOT run due to my passenger side exhaust manifold cracking...but I digress. What should I be looking for when it comes to AFR readings? I notice that it keeps around 14 +/- through a rather large majority of the throttle positions. I know less is rich, and more is lean, but where should I be sitting in ideal conditions?

I wonder now if heat/humidty is directly affecting the afr's for the trd s/c's

Gadget, you have tuned some of them including ntinhri's, but all were on the east coast...right?

It seems the az guys are all running rich with the same bolt ons. But we have basically zero humidity and its alot hotter here.

hmmm:dontknow:

the stock tune that the reflash has is sufficient unless you plan to do some big changes, like a pulley

The ECU will control the AFR during your regular driving. Lower numbers are richer, higher is leaner. Wide open throttle i would say you wouldn't want leaner than low 11's unless you have methanol or something to help compensate.

Nope, about half have been on the left coast.

Yea, I know it is hot there. I remember melting all over the parking lot at X-Fest.

Good stuff. So basically to be safe we want somewhere in the 11-12:1 afr range... And this is all done through the map ecu2 ... How does the map ecu2 install? does it require hacking into the wiring harness again like the MAF calibrator? is the map ecu2 unit going to be mounted in the glove box ? and does it come with software to upload onto a laptop and basically just connect to the laptop directly from a USB port?

You can either splice into the wiring or get URD's P-N-P harness along with it.
