The dealership will falsh ur ECU, which will have a tune for the S/C. :top:

Then you can spend :
$600 on a MAPECU2
or
$1300 on an X-1

You don't need either of those, but they make the S/C run better.

Yep, the X-1 is the hottest thing going for the 1GR supercharged or not.

URD has it in stock ready to ship. You can give me a call any time if you have any questions. URD is down in Orange County CA.

thanks gadget! i was hoping you would chime in on this one. without asking you to write a novel about the x-1, could you give me the "short n sweet" on the x-1?

Or you could get a new URD S/C... Comes with the x-1 :)

I just ordered an X-1 from URD last week, but from what Gadget told me, the tune they put on their depends on what mods you have done to the truck and then it basically it self adjusts the afr, etc.

Further tweaking can be done like rev limits, speedo limit removed, etc. URD worked with APR a lot to make some really solid tunes and if its not quite right Gadget or APR can help you make the adjustments in their software to get it running right.

The TRD Reflash is a safe/generic tune that is a one size fits all kind of thing. Depending on your mods the ECU may not be able to regulate the afr correctly so you might be running lean/rich at different levels of boost. Gadget has many stories about wonky TRD reflashes and the bugs he has had to try and correct with the apr or map ecu2. Generally speaking the reflash will almost always work perfectly fine with all stock truck as recommended and will usually work fine even with some aftermarket mods. There are exceptions to everything and the reflash is going to be lower power levels then with another tuning method, just because they had to make it so general.

Gadget would also recommend that if you are going the TRD route, to skip the reflash (cannot go back to a stock ecu flash ever again) and just go with the APR X-1, since it will take over and handle all of the things that the reflash would have done.

Just give me a call 877-887-3872 x3 and I can get you up to speed on things much faster than I can type.

These pulls were done on the same dyno (DynoDynamics). Don't compare peak numbers with other dyno's you've seen as all dynos read differently, and can't be accurately compared together.

Stock - 180.5rwhp/229.9rwtq
Stock TRD S/C with TRD Flash - 228.8rwhp/279.8rwtq
TRD S/C, X-1, and bolt-ons - 297rwhp & 320rwtq - 70wrhp/40rwtq gain over stock blower with ECU Flash.

could you give me the "short n sweet" on the x-1?

In short... You have complete control over your tune. You can monitor dam near every sensor in the vehicle. Plus more HP.

I'm going to put together a "How-To" type walk through for the XTune application.

Oh.. and you can do this.

That doesn't exactly sound like a fair comparison to me........what about the bolt-ons?? They surely contributed to the additional 70hp gain. What were the bolt-ons?

I'd like to see:
Stock dyno (already established)
Stock TRD S/C with TRD reflash (already established)
Stock TRD S/C with X-1 tune

All from the same dyno of course.

I'm sure the info is out there. Anyone have a dyno/link??

Yes, the bolt ons most definitely had something to do with that 70rwhp gain. The bolt-ons included I/H/E,

These were done on a DynoJet by ABP on the original X-1 tune (http://www.xr-underground.com/vb3/showthread.php?t=16933)

TRD S/C, TRD CAI, Muffler, TRD Flash - 294rwhp
TRD S/C, TRD CAI, Muffler, X-1 - 328rwhp (34rwhp gain)

cool, here's another one for you...should i get the x-1 before i get the trd s/c? and do you know the performance gains?

Thanks for the info/link. Good stuff. But....I wonder how much of that gain is coming from the cam gears?? I bet at least half of the 34 hp gain is from the gears...

Anyone install the X-1 w/o the cam gears, tune, then redyno just to see the delta between the TRD reflash and the X-1??? Probably not..

Jaxchrisfla (n/a) was tuned (URD MAF Cal), switched over the X-1 and retuned, and gained like 12rwhp and something around 30lbs of torque.

i highly suggest going URD s/c! for the money spent you get more gain... if your going TRD blower for warrty. If you start modding your going to void your toyota warrty anyway. SO take it from someone who has one of the most modded out trd xrunner...GO URD. plus x-1 comes with it..

I should hope so....1.5x to 2x the price of the TRD setup as well.

Don't forget....for those of us in unfriendly smog states (like CA) the TRD setup makes more sense....hence why I chose the TRD route. If I lived in a different state (like Nevada) I would've gone the URD route. :top:

Well... if you want to break it down.

Here are the facts, based on Gadget's personally built & tuned truck (actual street results have not been seen), and as close to equivalent as we can get.

Stage I = Supercharger, Intake, Fuel Pump, X-1
TRD setup equivalent to the the URD Stage I
TRD S/C - $3500
TRD CAI - $350
X-1 - $1300
Fuel Pump - $170
TRD Stage I - $5320 - 328rwhp (6psi - ABP) - $16.22/hp
URD Stage I - $5895 - 337rwhp (7psi) - $17.49/hp

Stage II = Stage I + Pulley, Headers, Y-Pipe, Exhaust
Y-Pipe = $469
CBE = $529
DTLT = $514
TRD Pulley = $89
URD Pulley = $79
TRD Stage II - $6921 - 351rwhp (9psi @ 6200rpms - Dakota-rt-2a-xr) - $19.72/hp
URD Stage II - $7486 - 380rwhp (8.5psi) - $19.70/hp

We will use the APR Stage II kit (2.7" pulley + 7th injector) for the TRD Stage III. We don't have any reported dyno numbers from this kit yet. But based on my truck with a DynoDynamics dyno (that reads low) and 1/4 mile MPH speed, I should be about 340-350rwhp on a dynojet. Lets call it 340rwhp on the stock pulley with the 7th injector. The 2.7" pulley is capable of producing at most 10.9psi of boost (per the engineers at Magnuson, 8.3psi on the stock pulley, 9.75psi on the URD pulley). We'll say 10psi the avg under good conditions. I peak at 6.5psi. So add 3.5psi at 20hp per PSI (again per Magnuson with supporting mods), that's about 70hp gain. That paired with a race tune on race fuel (as the URD Stage III kit was done). Say you only advance 2.5* timing advance at about 4hp per degree, so an extra 10hp. So about 80hp gain (over stock pulley). So we'll call it 420whp (actual results will vary!)

Stage III = Stage II + Pulley, Race Tune, Grill for URD (as stated on URD's site)
APR 2.7" Pulley = $389
APR 7th Injector - $620
URD Pulley = $79
Grill - $140
TRD Stage III ~ $7930 ~ 420rwhp (10psi) - $18.88/hp**
URD Stage III - $7705 - 422rwhp (8.5psi) - $18.26/hp

FYI TRD in the current setup is not carb. smog cert. def not if you do a intake..
