^^ Clutch disc is separated. The center and outer friction material is longer together.

larojax, what were the symptoms on your bad throwout bearing. I'm having a heavy vibration sometimes when releasing the clutch during first or reverse. After I'm in gear, it seems to go away. Other times its fine... Looks like I'll be going to the dealer soon...:hmmmm2:

Parts replaced this time were:
FORK, SUB-ASSY
BEARING ASSY
SUPPORT, RELEASE

Service Advisor text states:
FOUND THROWOUT BEARING TO BE MAKING NOISE DUE TO EXCESSIVE CLEARANCE IN BEARING "???" AND FORK ASSEMBLY. REPLACED BEARING, FORK, AND FORK PIVOT BALL STUD

I can't make out the part numbers from the raggedy camera phone pic I took, so I'll update those when I get to see the paper again.

This month, I noticed an intermittent chirp. The throwout bearing is on it's way to hell again. Luckily no idle squeal, but occasionally I hear it spinning around in there when I shift. *fingers crossed* I have 6k left on my bumper to bumper. Powertrain is a little tougher of a battle, so I'm hoping if it does, it goes before 36k

Well, the inevitable has happened. I drove over to my storage unit, left the truck running, went inside, came back out and there it was. The idle squeal has returned :frown:

Sucks even worse b/c I don't have time to take it back to Toyota before I move this coming week.

FML... and whoever designed these crap transmissions and throwout bearings

I've got an '08 with about 13-14k miles, and i've noticed a squeel at idle. At first I thought it was one of the pulleys, but when I checked under the hood, the noise was coming from under the truck. It sounded like it was coming from the transmission. When I push the clutch in just a little, it goes away. I'm suspecting it's the throw-out bearing, so guess I gotta take it in soon.

wats the best clutch kit

Right now we have 3 available. Paradise, Competition Clutch, and Spec.

Although I have heard no reviews of the product, the Spec clutches seem to be a good choice (solely based on product specs). Best thing to do is contact these vendors on the site and let them know what your goals are, they can hook you up.

i ripped out the center of my 08's clutch about 2 months/2,000 miles after i bought it brand new. the dealer fixed that one under warranty. then two months later at 4,500 miles it ripped out the center again. said it was b/c excess heat, strain, heavy load on trans, they said i was hauling somthing too. my truck hasn't ever hauled anything but my fat a$$. they made me fix for $4000, but i took the this one home me. now it seems like its going to do it again. i have babied this truck since the day i got it . i had a TC that i pounded the he!! out of for 70,000 mile and didnt have one problem out of. and i have talked to other 08 owners that had the same issue. hit me up in a private messege if u got a comment

mine started doing the exact same thing yesterday. I too thought it was a belt till I heard it go away with the clutch depressed in or out of gear.'08 with 12,760 mi

these trucks "talk to you" more than most manuals do so that is normal.you will feel when it is time to do your clutch. it will take more rpms to get moving( because of the slipping disc) I have had clutches last 100k but we have issues with the stock clutch design and many go out well before that.

I took my truck in for its normal service and told the service tech I had a squeak that went away when I pressed the clutch in and an occasional grind in second at high rpms. they checked it out and had a new tranny ordered before I left. I ordered a stage 3 clutch and lightened steel flywheel from the G man(thanks) they are going to put in free on sat with my new tranny. I am also going to pick up some redline tranny fluid to have them put in.:top:
