I spoke with Allan Phillips today. He would be interested in develop a kit for installing a T56 into our trucks. He would need at least five (5) people to help offset the development cost. The final cost of the kit has not be determined, but I would expect this to be in the neighborhood of $3500. This does not include the transmission or any console reworking.

These five (5) people would need to be able to put up a $500 deposit to be considered.

What we are trying to determine is whether there is a true market for this project. I have spoke with Balboa, and you will probably see a similar thread pop up on CT concerning this.

I am sure there will be a ton of questions.

I will start the list.

So what would the $3500 be getting us? Adapter plate, speedo pickup, driveshaft, rear end gears, clutch and flywheel.
I'll lay down some money, but what is the money getting me?
Definitely need more info before i'm in.

its a great idea but honestly i dont see it being able to hold its own on the market, im sure alot of people would love to do this and alot of people will be intrested in it, but seeing as its around 3500 (for what parts or what, i dont know), on top of having to still buy a trans and all the stuff required to get in the truck and working properly, i dont see alot of people buying it but im sure youll have plenty of intrest from people.

dont let that fool you into the thinking i wouldnt want to see this cause that would be the farthest thing from the truth.

im sure they want you to keep as much as possible on the down low but more info would definetly help. i also understand as to why you cant, if you cant.

Serious only. Right now we need a total of 5 deposits of $500 to get the kit started. Initial estimate is $1600 plus transmission. So if your interested put your name on the list.

From CT whats with the drastic initial estimate difference?

wtf? 1600 - 3500 is a big jump and a huge factor in sales and intrest.

I believe the cost difference is the difference between hope and reality. modding a major drivetrain component in never as easy as it first looks. if you shoot high then you will be happy if you get a discount not pissed it cost more that you were budgeting. I am highly interested but need to find out when and how the rest of the money would need to be paid.

I think the $16oo is unrealistic to develop a kit. I think when you think through the variety of parts that is going to be required, a price tag of $3500 is closer to the mark.

This is also just a feeler, not a group buy.

If you could get a complete kit, less transmission to bolt up a T56 would you do it?

This is not a cheap project. I would put on the same level as a blower. How much does a blower cost?

$4000 at the dealer.
$2800 on ebay.

What about the X-1? Another $1300

What about headers? 3" exhaust, etc.

This is no different.

No matter how much power you have, it is not getting to the rear wheels without a suitable transmission.

I have looked at doing an automatic. I would expect that cost to be about $5k after all the dust settles. I would expect a T56 to be about the same.

Obviously that will not be for everyone. If you are NA that is not going to be a requirement. But if you have visions of 400 HP, it is going to be a necessity.

Agreed.

I have done a few major projects. No one wants to pay for the engineering, but it is a real cost.

A project like this has a lot of little details that have to work out. My guess is Allan Phillips will be doing good to break even on the first ten.

I would say about $5000 to $5500.

Are you casting a custom bellhousing or making an adapter plate? are you getting a clutch setup made, or can our current parts be modified. Is driveshaft modification included? What about rear end gears? I assume that is another cost in addition to the 3500. Just need more details about what is included.

I think some of these questions will take time to answer.
rear gears will be a necessity the final drive of most t56's are .50 to .65 ours is .85
just to have close to the same power off the line we will need at least a 3.73

Looks like Im gonna need to be in ANOTHER car accident so I can collect another settlement check for this:biggrin: just kidding.
I would def pay 5k for a COMPLETE swap but the console would def concern me. I need someone to die and leave me MONEY:crinklehair:

The idea here is to judge interest.

I can go get mine done tomorrow and not look back. I am prepared to do that.

What I am trying to determine is whether, I let you come along for the ride.

You do ask some good questions, that I do not have the answer for today.

If it is possible to machine an adapter (that works) that would be cheaper. If not a custom bell housing is necessary.

Since I have not done this yet, I do not know, what problems the driveshaft is going to be.

Rear gearing is not included in this. Depending on the transmission used, that may be a requirement.

The console will be the least of the problems.

Coupe, you come out with some GREAT ideas for the community to help support ALL the power adders out there for the X!!

If i had 3-5G, id do this in a heart beat!!! :top:

but i must lurk and watch the outcome of this!!!

def. interested into doing a tranny swap in the future!!! Hopefully all of this will become more than an "interest"

Sorry, If I sounded offensive.

This is a major endeavor and will not be suited for a lot of people. I wish I had a complete kit ready to ship out tomorrow for $500. But I have already used my wishes for a three way with Jessica Alba and Megan Fox.

What I am saying, is I think this can me done by a reputable person (Allan Phillips) and we can put some of our transmission problems behind us.

Sorry Coupe I was just playin with the console part:top:

how much shorter/longer is a T56 then our trans?

On a side note, I just recently replaced my shifter bushing but the rubber inside the arm is BEAT! It feels like it did before the short shifter. Can't wait for my wife to go into the hospital so I can send out my shifter to u and my S/C snout out for a 2.7!

****Sorry, wife is prego!!****

No problem. I set on the fence on several of these and waited on the outcome.

The console will be the least of the problems.

I appreciate someone stepping up and doing this, and would love to come along for the ride. And if money down is needed I will be more than happy to do that. But not until I know a final price, or at least a final price limit and what is all included for said price.
When you get more info let me know. I think is going to be hard, and really impractical to get more than a couple people to commit the money without knowing any info.

I do not know. I do know the Mustang version put the shifter almost perfect in the console.
