2006 X - T.O bearings replaced at 14k and again at 42k under warranty. They replaced the clutch and housing the second time around. Won't be too surprised if I have to do it again in another 10k.
BTW - Toyota dealers do have a log of ALL of your services done in North America. I made the service guy print it out to show them that I've been to other dealers during separate occasions during the lifetime of this truck to get this problem checked out.

I've read a bunch of threads on this site regarding this clutch issue and now I'm starting to get worried.

I have an 08 with 13000 miles on it and lately I've been noticing a creek/squeak when I press/depress the clutch. It's also been getting a little more difficult going into to gear, especially second.

Does this sound like the dreaded bearing issue?

if the squeak is in the pedal it can be fixed by you

if the squeaking continues while the pedal is depressed and does not sound like it is from the pedal but below or outside it could be the t.o. bearing.
but the trouble with engagement sounds like the transmission should be looked at for possible replacement. best of luck
this is such a crappy transmission for such a cool truck:motz:

If you did not authorize the work then they really cant take it apart. I have a stock clutch with pressure plate and flywheel if you need it. Its in great shape.

Thanks for the offer. I'm going to meet with SX TOY on Friday and will be taking his off his hands. Now I just need to find someone down here in So Fla to help with the install.

Note to everyone who ever gets Toyota service.. SAVE ALL of YOUR STOCK PARTS. Damn I hate myself right now for forgetting my clutch.

Thanks for the info. I 'think' it's just a squeaky pedal right now. I also noticed on my way to work today that my seat has a squeak when I push in the clutch, so it's hard to tell which one is which.

I'm going to try changing my transmission fluid and seeing if that helps with the second gear.

just got my x this month. 44k clutch is going strong. firm pedal operation but not too firm... no squeaks or groans or otherwise funny noises. first day off the lot did a crucial burnout hit the rev limiter in 1st and burned em up into 2nd... everything was smooth!!! i guess some geezer owned it before me! note to self... save money for aftermarket clutch and dont cancel warrant. (when i got the financing to buy the truck i also bought a bumper to bumper warrenty that lasts for 4 years after the date i bought it or untill i hit 80,000 miles total on the odo. only like 27 bucks a month for the platinum coverage and it covers s/c t/c and many other upgrades, plus i get a rental free of charge if i need it. <deffinately recommend purchasing an additional warrenty, especially if you are still making payments

Soooo... took my truck to a different dealership today. Went in with a 5th gear grind, came home with both a 5th gear grind and squealing throwout bearing.

I went in and told the service writer I have a 5th gear grind when driving on the highway. (which means merging into traffic at about 65-70). Tech gets the car and has it all of 3-5 mins. He went right up the street to the next light and turned right back around. Says he put it in 5th at 50mph and didn't feel or hear anything. I'm like "I said FIFTH GEAR on the FREEWAY", then he asks if I wanna leave it overnight. I said how am I gonna get home? He says well bring it back tomorrow when we have more time.

I start my truck and get ready to drive off, I hear that sound I know so well and hate so much. So I walk him back to the truck and say "do you hear that? That wasn't here when I came here" ... He says "yeah I know that sound, it's pretty common and something I look for. I didn't hear it before... Bring it back tomorrow"

:argh: :motz:

I swear I wanna drive this thing off a cliff sometimes. Guess I'm gonna have to take a fvkn day off work to get anything done.

Damn that sux bro, I too have a bit of a 5th gear grind, it happens only when I shift at more than 3k RPMs, or higher. If I red line shift 4th to 5th it's not good.

I also had my throw out bearing replace recently and it is squeaking yet again.. I'm thinking of taking mine in soon..

Lol... so I told my team lead I'm taking the rest of the day off to go to Toyota and get this handled.

I start the truck up... no T/O bearing squeal.
Jump on the freeway and gun it in 4th, shifts right into 5th no problem at about 75mph.
Only way I get it to grind is from jumping 3rd to 5th.

so... I turned around and came back to work. FML :frown:

Nightline did an episode on Toyota's brakes last night. I emailed them with our trans/clutch/t.o problems.

Hopefully they will email me back...

Wow that's ridiculous, shit always goes away when you try to take it to the dealer...
