Definitely the throw out bearing. I had the same issue, got the TO bearing replaced under warranty, and now it has returned.. This is a wide spread issue on these trucks unfortunately..

Dropped my truck off again today... giving this throwout bearing thing another shot... :dontknow:

Service writer looked at the cluster and was like "Hmm... that's odd. Your tire light lights up white. Usually they are amber."

My response: :hmmmm2: ... :dontknow:... :rolleyez:

Guess he didn't notice the red numbers, white letters, and no beep from seatbelt warning & reverse.

Side Note: I finally saw a Tundra today that made me kinda want one. Didn't have a camera on me :fail:
Silver crew max, with BHLM, HIDs, tinted tails, black mesh grille, dropped, black 24s, exhaust... The service writer was talking to me and I was so stuck on the Tundra, I didn't hear a word he said. I was definitely lusting.

Verdict: T/O Bearing to be replaced AGAIN under warranty. Service guy says it's common & standard procedure is to just keep replacing bearings.

So in other words, they change an ~$80 part every 10-20 thousand miles or so until the powertrain warranty is up. Still come out waaaay less than replacement transmission (which wouldn't solve the problem anyway). I wanna see if they offer to change that bellhousing with the scored up input shaft while the tranny is open.

Even after the Powertrain Warranty is up, any parts (or work performed) should come with 12 month/12,000 warranty.

Just sell your XR and buy another one, one with a good tranny that's not shot like yours. You can get the right color this time around, Speedway Blue :top:

Cant afford a C5 but...
I did see a gto for sale this weekend :hmmmm2:

C5's are cheap brother, 97-00 and 99-00 FRC's can be had for under $18k with low miles. You live down south you don't need a winter car, you're damn lucky:top:

Well I would like to say Thank you to all of you guys who made a stink about your trans issues. I would hafta say it made a difference with my experience thus far. I picked up my 05 X last month with 21k on it from a used car dealer n didn't notice any trans issues in the test drives i took (researched the truck like mad before i looked at it. mostly on this Xtremely helpful site!) Needless to say it took less than 1000 miles B4 I noticed a grind into 5th. So I took it to the dealership, told them what happened and went home. The next morning they called to tell me they had a trans on order for it. They didn't give me a hard time or even ask me a question.
It should be in tomorrow so hopefully I'll get it back after work and I'm prayin my trans issues will be over. It kinda bothered me at first but then I got to thinking n I'm glad it happened now and not in July when my 5yrs of warranty are up.

Big Shout Out to all yous who didn't take s#*! n continue to fight for a resolution to our continuing problems! :adore:

these trucks "talk to you" more than most manuals do so that is normal.you will feel when it is time to do your clutch. it will take more rpms to get moving( because of the slipping disc) I have had clutches last 100k but we have issues with the stock clutch design and many go out well before that.

What's really scary is that I've never had a clutch die before 100K on any vehicle I've owned. My BMWs went well over 100K before needing clutch replacement, and my 94 Toyota truck had it's 1st clutch replaced at 110K miles. Seeing all these stories about clutches dieing <10K miles is absolute BS! There is no way a company like Toyota, with it's reputation for quality, should be installing "crap" clutches on our trucks!

I'm at 23K miles, and once I'm out of my warranty period (or my original clutch dies), I'm investing in an aftermarket clutch!

I'm at 22k with my 2008 and the clutch is slipping. I have a 67 ford with 167k miles on it and only 2 clutches, and the original trans. A 1994 toyota and the clutch went out at 140k, but has the original trans. Granted, my 1994 has a week 4 cylinder, and the Ford, well it's a '67 Ford... nough said.

I am getting my X-runner's clutch replaced under warrantee. I never drove it "crazy" but I do drive all my vehicles aggresively... I think this truck will be my cruiser now, and I will baby it for the rest of it's life. I guess that's what you get for thinking a V6 compact truck is a hotrod.

Possibly a new tranny!

Took the X in for yet another throw out bearing (previously replaced @ 36K). Now i'm at 61K, I asked them to check the input shaft closely. Got a call from the dealer today and they are having someone from Toyota come down too look at it. Hopefully a new tranny will be in the near future!:hmmmm2:

Jesus... This and the trans thread have me seriously considering just dumping the truck before any issues pop up. No problems yet, but damn...
