What sucks is I had a 4x4 oil pan assembly sitting around here collecting dust. I wish I knew it would fit on the truck.

I gave it away to a guy that got his smashed in when his diff brackets snapped 4 wheeling.

This Coupe oil pan idea is a very good one. I can't wait to get mine.

I have a spare one in my garage right now. :top: This is definitely the best option by far though.

A few progress pics.

One thing I noticed, when doing this project, is the oil drain plug is not in the low part of the pan. I am sure that makes sense somewhere, but I relocated it to the low spot of the pan. I also picked up a stronger magnetic drain plug. I tailored the drain plug boss around it, so the tip of the drain plug is flush with the inside of the oil pan.

I am also showing a pic of the BMW flapper. These get installed in the slots above the holes in the baffles.

I will show some more pics in a few days.

i take it that the baffle plate will be welded out fully or are you just going to have them welded in a few spots?

I think it is extrememly strange that they did the design like that from the factory, with the drain plug on the higher side. It screams of a design meant to aid in a shorter motor life. Since more used oil stays in the motor. Just my .02 cents.

I really like how you now have it flush in the pan. This is coming along nicely. Funny thing about this project, is that Toyota did the same thing with the Scion tC motor. Chris Rado and his time attack team had to do the same thing that you are doing because they were spinning bearings from oil starvation. Now they have a turbo kit for sale, and what part do you think is in there. You guessed it, A deeper oil pan. http://www.descendant-racing.com/performance.html

Coming along nicely Coupe.

What if someone was to make a spacer ( 1") that would fit between the pan and the block like the intake spacer and the spacer for the oil pick-up. That would give more oil sitting in the pan

I am just going to spot weld the baffles. This will allow the oil to full drain out of a compartment.

I am probably going to offer this as well. You will need two spacers. The one you see in the pics and one for the oil pick up tube. I have made these, I just did not show any pics.

Oil Pick Up Spacer.

Serrated (both sides) Belleville washers on fasteners. This will prevernt the bolts from wanting to back out.

are all the spacers going to be welded to the pan like that or is this just the prototype?

Did you think of possible distortion when you welded the spacer to the pan. What if it was made of aluminium with a gasket on both side and a slit on the inside to slide in the oil gate that you fabricated,no welding involve and you just sell the kit ( pan spacer, oil pump spacer, longer bolts, 2 gates with trap doors and 2 gaskets). :hmmmm2:

This one is mine, so I welded the spacer to the pan. This prevents a possible leak path.

I am thinking of offering this both ways.

I thought of this and it is very doable. In my case, I wanted the pan to be welded to the spacer.

I'd you used bolts instead of studs it would give more clearance and a deeper sump. looks like a good idea coupe. Looking forward to final product

I have a spare motor at NST that could be used for test fitting if you like.
