Rookie question but i am having a hard time removing the reflector bowl from the rear housing. I see these two odd looking bolts, but when i attempt to remove them they just spin in place.
I am anxious to finish this mod!! Thanks for the help all.
Greg-

Why are you trying to remove the reflector bowl? Those are two adjustment screws. You have to keep unscrewing them to take the bowl off but you don't have to take it off for the BHLM.

I havent purchased the retro fit lights yet but i purchased this set of OEM lights to prepare for the mod. I am just doing the BHLM for now. So this does help!!! thankyou

update: i just purchased a set of DTLTH on ebay for $456 brand new in the box!!! it was to good of a deal to pass so i will not have the Retro Fit Source for a while now...

Just took apart my first headlight, Damn that crap was hard. took me 4 different tries..lol. Im hopin this second one works out easier. Definetly easier when i used 310 for 11 minutes.
Update: I just finished taking headlight #2 apart and did it on first try :). Seems pretty easy if u follow directions and take your time. 310 for 11 minutes seems to be the lucky winner for heat and time. I probably wont get around to painting them for a couple days, but will post pics when done.

Quick question. I guess its my time to take a stab at this. I have eyelids on my headlights, is it safe to put it in the oven or do I need to pry the 3M tape off? Im assuming itll be okay? I read someone else posted this question, but no one really answered it.

Also, it sounds like Satin paint is the best type? I have a SWB XR and I want it to look good with my HID's. I plan on doing this tomorrow so your help is greatly appreciated.

Yes you can put them in the oven with the eyelids on. I did mine and had no problems at all.

Thanks! So what paint did you use? Krylon Fusion Satin? I think that's what I will use as well. And any Clear WIndow/Door Silicone like the kind you get at a hardware store? Like the kind in the long white tube?

Yep krylon fusion satin black. No I didn't use that kind of silicone. I used clear window silicone in a small clear tube from wal mart for the first two times I took my headlights apart. But when I just put my projectors in I used the grey factory type adhesive that came in my kit.

No prob bro good luck. Make sure to put the lights on the lowest rack in the oven so they don't accidentally touch the oven roof when you put them in...been there lol. And make sure to turn the oven off after you put them in. I've heard of the lenses glazing over from the heat being left on by mistake.

Quick question before I get started. Once I'm done painting, do I put the painted piece back in the housing and then the clear lense on it as well and then bake it again for 5 mins? I was confused cuz it says to put the two pieces back in the oven, is t that 3 pieces? Or is it that I install the black painted piece into the housing and put that in the oven with the clear lense as well separately and once heated then press them together?

Put all three pieces back in. Be careful when putting the painted piece back on the lens so you dont chip the paint but it may happen anyway due to the tight fit. Put the two screws back into the back of the painted piece, put a bead of silicone in the channel on the grey part then press together and put in the oven. Just make sure not to put any of the plastic pieces on back of the headlight or the bulb until you take them back out.

Don't touch the inside of the lens or you'll end up with fingers prints you can't wipe off without taking the whole thing apart again! :bawling:

All done! Thanks guy!!! That wasn't hard at all. First light was hard to get apart but 2nd light I did it for 1 min more an it came apart easy! Found it easier to get bottom bolt off from the side of the wheel well. I gouged one my eyelids tho so I'm gonna have to touch that up but all in all I don't know why I waited 5 years to do it! Lol

Thanks for the quick replies yesterday and today bruthas! Pics to come after a smoke and a shower :top:

I love to mod stuff, but I felt the same way, i was totally scared about doing it. But if you just follow the directions, you really cant go wrong. Take your time, and dont rush, and youll be just fine. Give it a shot bro!

Here's the pics, what I guys think?
