Tools Required :
flathead screwdriver, phillips head screwdriver, hands that bend 20 different ways, and a good detailing spray with some terry cloth or microfiber rags..

take the grill off, look at the silver aluminum bumper just behind ur front bumper cover. just above that bumper there are metal clips that hold the top part of the black piece. take a flathead screwdriver and ease them off, they have hooks on them, but they slide right off. after getting all of them, there are a few parts on the strip that hook over the upper part of the same grill. pull up softly on those hooks and it pops right out. now the top part is completely detatched. pull it out and look at the painted part. at the bottom edge of the black piece, u will see little specs of light showing through, this is where the clips are located from underneath the bumper. when laying under the truck there are push clips that will need to be removed as well as a screw or two. these all hold the normal bumper as well as the body kit bumper in place onto the aluminum bumper. these clips don't have anything to do with the black piece, but make it 200 times easier to get to the clips. there are blue clips on the backside of the regular bumper(not body kit) these clips come out fairly easily with a long flathead screwdriver, though be careful not to break the slot it slides through, its a very important part when putting it back together.
there r a few hidden clips at the outer edges of the aluminum bumper. those r the hardest ones to get to. also be sure to take out the clip from the center of the body kit bumper. this will make it so that the body kit splits into two sides and makes it easier to take the black piece out when its detatched. after u get all the clips out, pull out one side of the front body kit, it should slide right out, it doesn't come off the whole way, but does bend out a good 6 inches. u will see the way that the black piece is attatched. it slides right off when positioned correctly. be sure to have some detail spray handy with a rag that can handle some grains of sand and road grime. take the black piece off one side at a time if ur doing it urself, the pieces r flexible, but holding them is difficult with one person. after u got it off and cleaned the painted part underneath, put the body kit back into place, get back under the truck, and put the clips back in facing the top of the truck (opposite of how u took them out) this is much easier than putting them in upside down. be sure not to force them. connect all of the push clips, re-install the top grill, and all screws and clips.

And some pics mid-removal:

Rubber Gasket part #

After you complete this mod, you'll need a rubber gasket, which is the same gasket that you can find over the body kit. Here is the part #:

75696-04040 Description: pad, body outside moulding, no.1

Cost: About $10.00

well i just did this tonight. It was so much effort and pain for such a seemingly insignificant piece to remove lol. Needless to say it does look good, alot better in person i may add. One question tho, did anyone's body kit pieces in the front kind of jiggle a bit and have a space? Is this what the extra weather stripping is for?

Yeah the rubber gasket is to continue the rubber piece through that gap in the front

You forgot impulse red. If you are really ambitious you can mold you 2 piece front lip into a 1 piece like I did.

If you would of took the black piece and cut off that 2 inch lip it has and then put it back on but on the back it takes up the jiggle room. because with out it there the clips aren't as tight that is why you got a jiggle. At least that is what I did and I have never had a jiggle.

maybe its just me, but i like it better with the plastic piece in there:dontknow:

not to mention, i could care less about the rock chips in the plastic... chipping the actual paint would piss me off a lot more.

I ended up breaking most of them. (Patience? How long does that take?) I just used cable ties & it looks fine. And as far as that gasket, I don't even know what you guys are talking about. I don't think it's necessary. I don't have it & I don't miss it.

Yeah, it is surprising what a pain in the a$$ it is, but well worth it. That black piece is so freakin' ugly....what was Toyota thinking?

Yeah but in the end, the results are worth it. :top:

yeah you cant really tell with the BSP though. You have to really look to appreciate the work. Those of you folks with the SWB and RR can really see the difference

i was with all the other guys on the whole "plastic looks fine" until i was bored and took it off. Jesus....it looks so much better lol. Seriously the plastic compared to the paint just looks like ass...ESPECIALLY in daylight...the plastic looks like straight dookie in daylight.
