Ok the Volant scoop is in, def huge difference in intake temps now. All I have to do is block off the opening in the intake box at the wheel well opening so that all I'm drawing in is cold air from the front of the truck.
In the summer during a 90*F day at highway speeds my intake was still sucking in 108*F+ which in my eyes is too hot. That's the reason I added this scoop and hopefully come summer time I see colder intake temps then I did when my intake was drawing in air from the fender well.
I paid $150 shipped for the scoop which is $50 cheaper the. I could find anywhere else

Because the wheel well one was the only one I had previously open and my intake temps were 10-20*F above ambient even at highway speeds which is retarded. That's why I'll be sealing that one off so that I'm only drawing in from the scoop

Well now it's around 50*F and my intake temps while driving are around ambient. Before they'd be at least 10*F above ambient unless its really hot out then it could get as hi as 20*F above ambient while driving 70mph

Nice work man, looks like it came right out of the box. Any difference in temp since you added the Volant scoop with the 2 openings? Im assuming it would cool it down a bit having the colder air coming from the grille and mixing with the warmer air from the wheel well.... Just curious if your temps improved before you close off the original opening.

Edit: Sorry, just answered my own question by simply reading the thread. Hahaha. Ive got a nice glow going on, first day of vacation. :)

i'm sure you could make a custom box just like the trd or afe boxes for the k&n. wouldn't be too difficult. i really like the look of the k&n intake just like it is though

Are those temp readings with scoop at the bottom of the air box open or closed. I'm talking about before you put the ram air scoop on ?

Ya "ramps" was supposed to be "temps"

I almost always have that rubber plug in the bottom of the intake box. If I do take it out its almost always in the winter time

I switched from a k/n to the afe II and my intake temps weren't much different according to my scanguage. Sitting in traffic both go up about 10-20 degrees hotter, but when moving they both would drop.
If anything the afe would be only a only 2 or 3 degrees cooler while moving.

However, since the afe butts up against the fender wall it makes it louder than the k/n when i accelerate with the widows down. More like a higher pitch flow of air being sucked in.

Also, when I switched them out there were no differences in my MAF readings and fuel trims. I guess I really didn't notice much of a difference between the two. Just piece of mind I guess from all the threads bashing the k/n.

Better keep an eye on those AF ratios close. I remember a VB member had one and it was definitely not being kind to his blower.

I really like. This setup the most... but IMO its almost like recreating the wheel if already has a scoop on the hood... why doesn't anyone man something to utilize this piece?
