AEM Infinity and 1GR-FE

Out of the Blue... stopped by a performance shop today.... Had nothing to lose to talk about the new aem infinity tuner and more importantly the new harness for the toyota tacomas by boomslang http://throwdownperformance.com/store/product/itmgroupdetail.aspx?groupid=74768&make=TOYOTA I know this aem infinity has been out some time but not much talk about it. This shop specializes in AEM tuning for evos, supras, wrxs, etc... The shop is called carzperformance.com and the guy I talked to said exactly what I thought in that tacoma 1gr fe engines are not a great market to mod compared to wrx, evo, camero, stangs etc... wrxs and evos are very popular in colorado being all wheel drive. He was honest in that, there is little known about the max hp torque for the factory internal 1gr fe and therefore, cautious about tuning with a standalone... I said around 400 to the wheels.... anything above that and things get squirrley


I got a quote from him for the aem infinity being installed for e85 and all the sensors, bells and whistles. Sounds like this tuner demands all the sensors linked in together for maximum safety. Not much excitement lately on xru so I was wondering if anyone has installed the aem infinity into their truck yet? I'll post up a picture of the quote soon enough see what peeps think....:top:

Sad but true . We both know that's right...lol..

I thought about going standalone for my Evo as well since I apparently can't stay away from the HP game and how awesome it spools up... We're starting to near Max power for the block and stuff but either way I was thinking that system as well. If I'm not mistaken the system is like 5k isn't it?

I talked to aem at sema about this. They suggested not to do it because it demands a lot of sensors to which other stuff might be tied to. I.e. Speedo ,dash lights , Ac etc....

It is a standalone. Which means it uses its own sensors independant of the OEM sensors. Unless for some reason they tied into them.

It is effectively a much more compact, refined, and user friendly version of my ProEFI. Which I have using all of its own sensors. GM sensors to be exact.

If for some reason anything happens with my ProEFI, that is what I'd switch to.

Buy the parts a la carte, until everything is in hand, then get it tuned. Easier that way.

I have had wheel tq at 450, on the stock block for a long time. Keep the timing from being aggressive, knock at bay, and AFR's solid. The stock will last forever on that TRD s/c power.

Yup... The guy at the tuner shop said the same thing. All sensors are independent and connected to the AEM infinity as a standalone. Cause this device is for racing period. Another thing he mentioned was about GM like you stated... All these sensors are GM made. The aftermarket companies scratch off the GM and stamp on their aftermarket name and of course jack up the price. I like this kit cause of running e85 anytime I want whether its a half tank with gasoline or whatever. But the kicker is, my obd2 port will be no good for emission testing hence the standalone:dontknow:

With the plug n play extension harness, the emissions testing will still be easy to do. Just unplug the AEM and plug the OEM ecu back in.

That is what I do. As well as swap back to the size injectors which the oem ecu is tuned for. Not that long a process.
