Get that dyno done. You have to start the pull no lower than 3k rpms.

I know.. I know.. :( I need to get it done. procrastination is a SOB

I would say around 340 going through the auto trans

really? hmmm...

that's another thing on my list of To-Do's.. an upgraded Torque Converter. only one I've found is the Level 10 TC... which.. I dont really want to deal with them from the horror stories I've always heard about.

I did a higher stall torque converter on my 96 4Runner. I hated it. It was the one mod I always wanted to undo.

If you are drag racing and that is all you are doing I guess it would be nice. In normal driving it was horrible. It was like a slipping clutch and it would really heat up the ATF. It was like the gas pedal was connected to a sponge.

I went through two different converters with two different stall settings, and did not like either one.

Anyway, your MPG will go down, and the truck will have a disconnected feeling in normal driving.

If you do want one, get it from Import Performance Transmission.

Driving a jet boat is what I've always compared high stalled cars/trucks to. The motor winds up quickly while the speed catches up over time. Great for getting into the RPM band of a big cam or building boost at the tree, terrible for everything else.

Toyota has updated/upgraded torque converters available. 1GRracer just installed it into his, with the upgrade kit from IPT.

Thanks Gadget. I might just replace my TC with a reman'd one then. not needed for racing, wheeling yes.

I've been dealing with a issue for some time now. No noticeable loss in power or anything (although, I might not have been able to tell since I drive it everyday) but I have some interesting sounds. That being said.. I sometimes feel as if I am lacking in the torque department, especially when I'm 4-wheeling and I need that low gear torque. I find myself having to give it more skinny pedal to build the torque up. The sounds are Mechanical and rotational for sure, co,ing from the Bell Housing. I pulled the Trans a while ago to swap the Flexplate (at the time, my research had pointed to a possible crack in the original) and found the Flexplate to be perfectly fine. I swapped in the new one anyways. The sound is still there and I'm almost certain its the Torrington Bearing inside the TC.

So.. new TC time. I already have the Valve Body upgrade done from IPT (Thanks to Werty). Guess I'll reach out to them for info on a TC.

IPT can get you anything you need.

Don't forget to check pricing on a new one from the dealer. Shop around on that. Sometime their prices are very good. I have gotten new parts for about half of junk yard prices for used stuff.

He upgraded his clutch packs, from IPT. As well as the valve body. Said it should be good for 700 hp now. And it drive smooth like stock, with the new updated Toyota TC.

OK, I'm a little confused now. Are you guys saying to purchase a new/used TC from wherever I can get the best price from, then have IPT build it?

Maybe I'll just shoot John at IPT another email and see what he says regarding them building me a new TC.

@Tor.. you talkin about 1GRacer or?..

And now I think he had a walbro fuel pump. Nice gains on the tq even with the lighter flywheel

On his first dyno, it was pretty much running N/A AFR's.... That being on the TRD flash. One of those lean flashes that you hear about. Usually they are pig rich. I am betting that the tuner dialed that in better this time around, with the MAF-CAL.
