Mine snaped at 1500 miles. Had it replaced under warranty...then the infamous throwout bearing began to chime in......now today, the fawking clutch is crapping out again. It feels very soft and is a bitch to get into any gear. Now Im gonna make the trip to the dealer tomorrow morning to try to get them to fix it again. Time to strap on the gloves.....only got 19000 miles on the truck. :motz:

Look on the bright side your clutch could have done what mine did at only 27,090 miles. Seperated from the center, disc itself seperated, and a peice of it came thru the bellhousing. Had to deal with regional, corperate and even arbitrations just to end up having to pay for it out of my pocket.:argh::argh:

mines a 2007 and i have been through 1 tranny and 2 clutches....its not the clutch in sense that is failing...it is the alignment of the tranny and the center hub to the bellmouth....
Is the alignment the primary problem that may cause the Stage II or Stage IV to wear early too?

yoO0 i have a 08 my first week was fine 2nd week... it was 1st to 2nd now it's 2nd to 3rd...and it makes a clink sound when i shift...an it's not smooth anymore it fills like it's dry in trany... i havent takin it in yet... sometimes when im drivin' it will get stuck on 3rd i wont even go in... i have to pump my clutch...an it fills like i lost power...

Dude, you should probably change your fluid ASAP. That should solve some of those issues. If not, something else is going on.

Do you guys slip it on the launch or double clutch on the downshift or when passing? I havn't had any trouble with my 07 but I don't slip it to much either....In the two pics up above is that a comparison? I can't tell whats different in the pics of the clutches.

That is my '06 clutch after about 60k miles. Those are just two slightly different angles of the same thing. What you are supposed to be looking it is the 1/8"-3/16" thick flat piece that has been beaten on, directly underneath the contact material. As you can see, there are some rotating weights that slap against it. Thus the indentions. That same indented piece is much weaker on the '08 and up models. There recently used to be 2 part #'s for our clutches. '05-'07, and '08 up. Now, they are just one.:hmmmm2: Don't know if they are the weak on, or the strong one. It might be worth asking if the 6 spd 4x4 has a different part #. That is what mine is. I know it works the same as the non 4x4 since I have the Stage 4 installed.:top:

The alignment problem, I believe, is very rare, compared to the clutch seperation problem.

Not maybe if you had gotten them to look at all of the people on the site alone that have had the same issue. It is far to many people with the same problem, for this not to be a problem.

hey, hows it going? thinking about getting an X and was reading this thread, and beginning to ponder if thats a good idea. i currently have an 08 REG CAB 4x4, and would like the extra space and looks of course. it seems they have some tranny issues. i have found a candidate in an 05 with 53k miles, should i automatically be worried about the transmission? dont really want to put all this money into a vehicle if im just gonna be fixing it soon, and not fixing it UP.......any thoughts, comments would be greatly appreciated. thinking about going to check it out saturday by the way...........

not every truck have the problem. Also depends on how the truck has been driven, although i know of some trucks owned by civil drivers, that have still blown.

Mine broke, because i beat on them. If your planning on doing any significant power, id suggest getting the comp clutch stage 2 at the least anyways, better safe then sorry.

That is the thing, while my truck sat at the dealership for 5 1/2 months and their were atleast 5 other X's and a regular tacoma that had to have thier clutches replaced. Two of them here in NC and 1 of them was repaired the next county over. They kept telling me that they don't look at all the other but look at them truck by truck and determine if they are warrenty related. Believe me I printed off more than one thread and showed them that it wasn't just a problem with my truck but a problem with Toyota. The main reason i think they didn't want to warrenty mine was for the fact that it was going to cost them close to 3 grand to warrenty. But luckly for me I have made a few friends here that helped me get all the parts that I needed and just ended up costing me $640 for get it back on the road. The dealership wasn't to happy after they found out that they had to rebuild my tranny for free cause the bellhousing is bolted to the tranny from the inside.
