As some of you know, my truck doesn't see many miles.

So I go to take it out tonight and... It wont budge.

The drivers side rear drum brake is locked up solid.

Its going to be fun breaking it loose.

Drive your XRs guys...

I'm your best friend right now: I had this problem so bad the X had to be towed twice!! Toyota replaced the rear brake parts and so far it has not happened again! They know there is a problem with the way water can get in the brakes, and you know it will take them 2 or 3 years to come up with a fix. If they give you a hard time I can email you a copy of my work order.:top:

happened to my old 2000 4x4 taco as well..it would get stuckk..and it wont pull out no matter what...happened to me on sat cause it was first time I got in it since I washed it last week..all I did was get out and grab the bed and rock it back and forth and yea can hear it POP..just make sure your level so it doesnt roll away..LOL I would think most drum brakes would act this way since I am sure they all let some water in and the pads can rust to the drum...I never really looked at it as a problem..More just saying..CRAP I was stupid to put on the ebrake after letting it sit with water after washing it.

Mine locked up so bad they had to trash the brake by braking the drum to get it off! This is why I'm not going to wait on Toyota for a fix, I going to get BBk for front & rear. This will fix the problem for good!:top: PS they put heat to the drum with a torch and that makes it no good.

but you could fix it for free and just rock it real fast..then no trips to toyota, and wont have to waste money on a rear brake kit. I dont really see the huge benefit of the rear kit other then looks.

I don't want to have this problem no more, and I don't plan on selling my X so that's why I'm going to do the BBk. And it's a good reason to do a mod!:laugh:

it was even worse in my old 2000 taco..You would get the once in a while drums locked after washing..but another thing was every time I washed it and took it around the block. The rear brakes would lock up with the slightest touch. After a few mins and I guess the water got out they wouldnt anymore...I just never understood why that only happened when I washed it and not when driving in a big rain storm. I would feel stupid driving my truck 5-10mph and then putting on the brakes and hear it squealing and back end lockup and slide to a stop.
