KETCHUP - really sorry to see this one brother. <--- people think we say that just to be "cool", but the fact is that a lot of my best friends from XRU are just like brothers. I would call on them for help sometimes before I would call my own family. Geoffrey/Tacomatosed is like a brother to me - along with quite a few others (you know who you are) - but Geoff is in town, just down the road, and we see each other often. Hell, he's coming over in about 45 minutes to drink some beer and cook out... this after just coming over 2 nights ago for dinner. :D That's what this place is really about if you take the time to dig into it.

Really sorry to hear about your motor Keith, but take advice from the brains here on the site. Make sure you have to pull the motor before you do it. And keep us posted man ---- oh, and don't sell... you know you would regret it down the road.

How could anyone hate in a time like this? Even I'm not that much of an a$$hole.

I like where Justin was going with this. U gotta drain the oil first and scope it out. If there's no obvious problems Run ur finger thru it and see if u get any brass colored sparkles in it. If u do go ahead and swap motors. If u dont see any brass go ahead and put the correct amount of oil in it, check all other fluids and then see if u can't run it.

That's where I'd start to see if there's major damage. Good luck and don't get rid of Ketchup!!

Brother been here trust me....at 2am on the side of the road there!

If its not clanking and banging id try what Justin suggested.

If you need any tips or pointers I have a team of motor swap specialists...if we were with in distance we'd be there...it no fun task but you do learn alot in the process. Good luck and hope your swap goes better then my never ending battle did...

wow that sux. When i saw the thread title my heart stopped, and i was hopping it was gonna be a joke.

Maybe im dumb but how much is too much oil? and how does that specifically cause damage?

I know ur pissed right now, but you may want to listen to the other guys and check some stuff out first before jumping the gun and swapping the whole motor

good luck bro

This is such a sad story to see my fellow brother. I'm actually pretty disappointed that this happened. I feel for you man. If I can be of any assistance let me know. :top:

this saddens me :frown:

now i agree with everyone else is statement in regards to diagnosing before swapping but if you do swap and the funds are available you may want to consider forged internals etc. for some added strength i dont know what they run for our trucks but it might be a sound investment :dontknow:

Im sorry this happened, but something isnt jiving. It ran hot-ISH, 220 isnt that hot. An Ls1(aluminum block like ours) runs 210 going down the road so 220 isnt going to damage something. Now 240 and up is when things interesting. How much oil was in it? If you broke a ring land from knock then that would explain the misfire, sound and smoke. Where you driving the truck hard when it was 100 outside? Im not trying to pry but the temp issue and too much oil dont explain your issue very well.

That sucks dude...

Don't bother poking around at this point, just pull the motor - break it down and analyze the damage to get your answers.

No sense in inspecting fluids and running tests when the motor has to come out anyway.

Did the logs show knock?

220 can break you and NO im not hating...

You are turning that blower at its limit already - add in hot ambient air and hot coolant temperature; you have a world class recipe for knock.

I bet your charge temps were cooking with all those combined items.

220 is HOT on a boosted engine running at peak blower efficiency already in hot conditions.

Run a mechanical fan, run a very conservative tune under your conditions even during normal operation.

ALWAYS do a parameter check before doing a run when you are tuning. When you are getting ready to do a pull you should always go down the list and check coolant temperature, intake air temp, current spark advance, fuel pressure, TPS, etc... and keep an eye on it (or have a friend keep an eye on it).

When your done scanning over all data to make sure it is normal, only then do your run.

Sorry again for what happened, hope you get back up and running soon!

Cause? Probably broken ring land(s) due to knock.

UPDATE:

So I got a sweet deal on towing both Xs to the Auto Craft Center on post. One is 20-30 miles away and the other about 10. $110 for the entire deal. Got Kevin coming down from AZ, MANCHEX, and hopefully the rest of the EP crew. We should get some good progress. Plus I have Gadget on phone if needed for any questions.

Thanks XRU for all the support and warm comments.

Here is my plan:
Swap motors
Change CAM gears
Install SC
Minor swappin of other things.

I think I am going to sell the NST pullies (RED). Not sure, but if someone is interested let me know.

yea, at this point, I honestly don't even care what is wrong or went wrong as long as it doesn't happen again. No plan on tearing the motor apart to find the cause. If it is noticable, then I will note it. MY engine is going to become a project engine for a future modification.....

I know brotha. Thanks for the support. We will get her up an runnin. U should take advantage of the fact that you can now beat me now that I am broke..... KETCHUP will be rockin a SWB motor.....which is cool. Long as it doesn't look like an SWB than I am fine.....

Hell yea Klint. So much support on XRU. Naw, I don't see myself selling. Although ownin a new SS Camaro or a 370 Nismo would be cool. I just have to much money, time, blood, sweat, and tears in o' KETCHUP to sell. Plus I couldn't take seeing some sumbich drivin my truck around town that would buy it......

yea brotha, sad times for the twins.

I think me, you, and a few others may know what I am talking about. And its not u....

autozone no long rents them you can order one but i tried about 3 days ago and i was told that they stopped because people kept dropping engines on themselves, no joke thats what they said but harbor frieght has them for 100 bucks.

That sucks dude...

I agree with this being WAY to hot, im boosted and never see about 178 EVER. but even with checking all gauges and all, its also alot of luck that something in the motor at that perfect instance does do what its suppose to do AND BOOM!!. been there done that.

Keith sorry to hear about this, i know how you feel, and if you need any thing just pm me. i just had a motor and i stripped some parts off, if you need any spare bolts or anything just in case, can ship them asap. Good luck and glad you have some people close to help you out of this jam. :top:
