Is the catch can useless without any filter media in it? I got it in today and installed it but noticed there is no filter of any kind inside...completely hollow. Is that ok? Or will it still allow some blow by with no media to allow accumulation?

I think you need the media. Heard of people stuffing steel wool in the catch can.

It will work without the media.

Think of it this way.

The vapor is laden with oil droplets, sorta like a fog. The vapor will travel fast in the hose. When the vapor hits the can, the velocity of the vapor, it slows down. This slower velocity will give the oil droplets time to coalesce into larger droplets. Once the drops are large enough, they will fall into the can.

Mine has no media.

the media just helps KEEP the vapors in the can. I have one in my charger, it has 2 cylinders and one of the cycliders has media in it, its only a scotch brite pad material and metal mesh. I also ran on in my xrunner and it was well worth it.

Not sure of the answer to this question but I just changed my oil over the weekend and I emptied just over 1/3 cup of oil out of my $20 catch can...I say it's a pretty good buy lol

I've had it for a year now and haven't had any problems at all. And I know with the kind of fittings that holds the sight tube the tube has to be perfectly cut. If it has any kind of angle it won't seal properly.
