Hey been doing quite a bit of looking around, but haven't seen this swap in an X-Runner yet. Has anyone else done it? Attempted it?

I have seen it in an S-runner, and it was pretty impressive. I have a fab shop that wants to tackle it, but wanted to get info first so i can try to smooth out some of the bumps.

I know of two, one was in SWB at one of those anime comic book convention things I think. The one I saw in person was a RR up in the Charlotte, NC area.

why not a twin turbo 1uz v8?
probably lighter then the iron block 2jz would likely handle a lot better

There is certainly room for one. I don't see why not, the engine bay has enough room. Coupled with an adapter plate + t56 should be fun. Going standalone and custom wire harness should give less problems and waste of time.

A friend has a 2JZGTE and a340 automatic in a 95 Ford Ranger running the stock Aristo ECU, so this should be easier.

I like the bullet proof bottom end on the 2JZ. Plus with the multitude of parts available for these it is pretty easy to get hi power out of these with much less money.

True, whle the early 1uz were entirely over built and can take a quite a bit of power, they have zero after market support compared To the 2jz...

why not sleeve the gr block and boost it into the universe? by my calculations it would cost about the same. plus with the 2jz you'd need someone in the back seat to shift for u lol. good motors but the gr is a better investment IMO.

If one were to attempt this momentous feat, what tranny would you run with? The W58, a solid tranny until you try to boost it, and the golden egg v160 is anywhere from 4-6 grand for the part alone. Not a bad idea of the 2jz yet a pricey project if undertaken. I would like to see pix of a completed product if there are some.

get an import v161? im gonna check into it cause there are a few of those jdm importers around here. if cheap enough, this may be the answer to the best replacement for the xr's troublesome tranny.

Even if you sleeve the block there are still limitations. The block its self will distort and come apart.

There is a race team in FL that was sponsored by TRD. They got custom built 5VZ engines given to them and they were pushing 1600 Crank HP out of them. When the 1GR came out TRD switched them to built 1GR engines.

After a while the race team gave them back because they started having the blocks fail around 800-900 HP and wanted to go back the 5VZ. TRD declined that so they dropped the sponsorship and built their own 2JZ engines.

URD made out good on that because we got a lot of their left over 5VZ parts.
