Cutting Rotors

I am running drilled and slotted black rotors from brakeperformance.com.
It's time for me to change the pads.
Can I have these rotors cut or do I have to buy new rotors?

ive heard u can cut drilled and slotted but also heard you cant so id like to no also

See if you can contact the manufacturer of your specific rotors. They can let you know if you can on their rotors.

Mine are $350+ for the set. So having the turned/machines is much cheaper than purchasing new rotors.

But can I have the ones I have cut or you can't have drill and slotted rotors cut period?

That is why i said to contact the manufacturer of your specific brand of rotors. They will be able to tell you if you can or not.

I just changed the pads on mine and didn't do shit to the rotors. Everything is fine with my setup

I paid 150 for my ebc yellowstuff and 100 for my rotors drilled and spotted and they are a dream 0 issues

If you have any brake pulsation or vibration when applying the brakes I'd recommend turning the rotors. You can turn slotted/drilled rotors. You have to use a variable speed brake lathe and turn them on a slow speed.

that is exactly what i was going to tell ya. yes you can but make sure they cut them very slow.

To purchase new brake rotors or turn them, ah that is the question. You are wasting your money if you are fitting new brake pads on your vehicle and your rotors are seriously scored or hollowed. It's extremely dangerous and could also cause the vehicle a total loss of brake. No one ever wants to experience total brake loss. Therefore it is strongly recommened that you replace or turn your rotors before installing any new pads.​
Your brake center can check the surface condition of your rotor with a straight edge to see if there is more then 0.5mm or 0.020 inches of hollow and if so your rotors must be turned or replaced. If you do not turn or replace the rotors you will have a dangerous braking situation and your pads will become damaged. Since this is a safety issue of the utmost importance, it is strongly recommended that you have a professional mechanic take this measurement for you. Rotors can be turned only about 1 or 2 millimeters before they become too thin for safe use and will have to be discarded and replaced.​

^^ Sounds like that was taken right off the back of the box new pads came in.

If they arent warped you can put the SAME new pad back on.
If you still want to cut them, they can be cut using final cut depths. Lightly removing material at every pass.

Solid hub drilled/slotted rotors can be resurfaced.

Cutting the rotors when performing disc brake service on a vehicle iis not quite as common as it used to be. While many old-school mechanics still swear by cutting rotors for every brake job, manufacturing companies like GM do not always agree. Replacement rotor pricing has come down the past few years, so replacing rotors is sometimes more of a viable option. Turning, cutting, resurfacing or truing (all different terms for the same task) rotors has to be done on a bench brake lathe or on the hub of a vehicle with an on-car brake lathe. Because of cost, the bench brake lathe is much more common in repair shops.

Simple solution if you don't have brake pedal pulsing or damage to the surface of the rotor just put on new pads. if they are damaged, junk them. When cutting rotors you thin them out and they are much more prone to warp. Not worth the cost or aggravation.
