You can't kill a Honda, the last run of the 636's Kawi made were the joke of the market. Everything was bad on them from starters to frames.

If you are staying in the military you need the military MSF course and their sportbike course as well.

Haha my thoughts exactly.. Never had luck with kawis but different strokes for different folks.. Go sit on them and see which is more comfortable, may sound retarded but go to a shop and just sit on one as if you were riding for a while.. I love Yamahas but they are a bit too wide for me. If you're feeling uncomfortable about riding, go rent a motocross bike and get the hang of it. Seems to make sport bikes much easier to handle, not to mention they're a lot cheaper to drop. I agree on getting a used bike for your first one, most definitely.

Honestly I'd buy the new street triple r. Triumph. 2 year factory warranty. Bullet proof bike. My first bike was an 08' Daytona 675. So easy to ride

Dirt and concrete are not nearly the same at all other than they have 2 wheels and what not. Riding a motorcycle on the street is very dangerous. Only seat time and some proper instruction will make you a good and capable rider. I thought I had it down until traffic came to a stand still from 80 mph on the blind side of the hill. I grabbed a hand full of front brake and endo'd down to 60, let off brake and back wheel slammed back down then applied somebackbrake and the bike started to slide out, then I took a hole shot into the lane next to me and went home and wiped my ass. Just don't be over zealous. Seat time seat time seat time. Learn body position and proper control of a Sportbike. It will take your life in the blink of an eye. Track day orgs exist all over the country. Find you one. It will be the best investment you make for your safety and for your full enjoyment of operating the machine.

You're right that it takes seat time. Nothing can prepare you for circumstances of other drivers though. Dirt, street.. Makes no difference. Ignorant drivers/riders are everywhere and we have no control of that. Just simply saying that from personal experience and what I've heard is that it's much easier to transition from dirt to street. It just gives you the confidence of riding a bike, being that it's much lighter, more agile, no oncoming traffic going 80mph... Beats being thrown on a 450 pound bike with unpredictable surroundings lol..

The 636 has abs .........so that helps.

I believe the old Honda interceptors had proportioned brakes so when you pull one, it applies both.

You either know how to ride or you dont.
If you dont, take a MSF BRC class.
If you do, take a MSF ARC class or do trackdays with schooling to help get even better.

Honda interceptors had nothing like that.
Later models had LBS and the CBS. Linked/Combined braking systems. Both of whick apply very little of the other you are not applying. For a skilled rider, this is an annoyance. For poor riders, its usually good.

Integrated brakes are great for the big lazy touring style bikes, my bmw has light integration in rain,sport and race mode. It applies a very small amount of rear brake to keep the rear end inline under hard decel/front brake.

This... i know alot of riders, myself included, who are not fond of the abs style brakes either. once you really get into riding and are really hitting corners hard abs is an annoyance.

THANK YOU! First bike, preferably go with a used. Take the MSF BRC, and when you feel super comfortable then take the ARC, military pays for it anyways. I let geico know and they gave me a discount on my insurance for the BRC. I'd take a GSXR 600 or a CBR600 over all the other super sports as a first bike due to their street friendliness. Seat time, seat time, seat time, that's where you learn the most stuff. Take it easy, don't show off, ride safe, geared up and don't become a statistic. :top:

good luck with the purchase mang!!!

I loved my 636 and my zx600, both were amazing to me!!!

I fell in love with overall styling of the ninja, also found it to be a little more tall man friendly, but nice thing about them is you can easily adjust the suspension to your desired height

my next suggestion, get to know how to properly maintain your bike, learn to lube the chain, do chain inspections, inspect the clutch lines, brake lines, pedal's arent broke, tires have to cracks, back tire is aligned properly and inspect for any leaks

I know far to many guys who break down a 100mi from home because they didnt inspect that loose chain or the pedal on the shifter fell off

trust me you cant go wrong with a kawi. And if your riding the street by far the best bang for the buck with that 636

yea gonna get kawi. its just gonna be back up a couple months cause i found that awesome deal on the turbo from toon714 haha. still gonna happen though.

hell yea. as much i want the bike right now i can always get it in a couple months. a custom turbo doesnt come around to often
