hey guys and gals, I hope you guys can laugh at this. I know I could

So I went to the dealership today to find out why my trucks' third gear isn't shifting so smooth. So they took it in and test drove it and checked fluid levels and then the tech drove it again. after two hours of waiting they come back and say nothing is wrong. so I ask why is it doing that and the tech says it doesn't like being driven fast. I laughed and said are you sure? and he walked away. next a service advisor comes to me and asks what the deal is and I told him I have a rough shifting problem going into third gear. so he gladly takes my keys and test drives it. thirty minutes later he comes to me and tells me nothing it wrong. I say then why does it shift like that if nothing is wrong? and he says we scanned the computer for trouble codes and nothing came up. then he says after I got heated over that statement that maybe a shift solenoid is going bad or a speed sensor.......ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!! I didn't know that a manual transmission had a Shift solenoid.. then the service manager comes over and says this man has over 20 years of experience with cars and has a BTM.. he said I know you don't know what that is. so I replied ts a business technology management. and after that I told them that they are retarded and left. so whats wrong?? it will go into gear but kindof rough going in but not out.? advice? anyone?

They aren't driving it like you would. Have them ride with you and show them the issue. Simply switching to a better synthetic fluid could help, if not it could be a synchro issue.

have you tried switching tranny fluid? i know that the stock toyota fluid is crap and made my shifts really rough. after i switched to redline mt-90 everything felt so much smoother. plus i didnt have really loud tranny noise.

also i would have had them go for a ride along. explain to them calmly what youre experiencing. they might be babying your truck and not finding the problem.

Your synchro definitely went to shit, the same happened to mine. Do you still have your powertrain warranty? If so, take a tech for a ride along so they stop bullshitting you and tell them that your synchro is done and you want a new tranny.

They are going to keep telling you that nothing is wrong if you just let them go for a joyride while you sit in the showroom.

I have to let my rpms fall to get into the next gear. A slight hesitation, or it goes crunch.

Its a synchro in to 3rd if you have to let the rpm drop to go into gear. Im a tech at a toyota stealership. it happened to mine also i had to fix my self. But you can try changing fluid too it may go away the stock fluid is junk. If im see your profile correct and your X is a 08 its out of factory warranty so it probably wont be covered.

There are a few sensors in your trans, one tell the computer to hold rpms for a sec to allow smooth shifting so hope its just a small sensor but the bad is that the trans has to come out and apart to fix .

sorry about your troubles. at lest you can baby it in 3 gear and drive still for a wail .

One thing it could be also that the URD shot throw shifter is lose or bad and not doing what its soposed to. I put in a TRD quick shifter in mine that eliminates the syncro issue

Well im running royal purple max gear 75 90w. And I took the short throw out for now and just went with the stock one. Still have issues.and the sensor is,fine because the rpms hover like they should. I have an extended warranty thru them when I purchased it. Numper to bumper for three years.

Oh by the way I took the tech for a ride and all he did was burn up my clutch and drive like a idiotthen he was like I dont feel anything wierd. But when we left he pushed the clutch in hard and the whole truck jolted and made a loud clack. Any clue what thats about?

Tried to do the same for my Texas inspection. I think I made him nervous cause I rode with him and told him to be careful cause I like my truck more than some people like their children. ..... Sorry for the thread jack lol

Royal Purple make fluid specifically for transmission call Synchromax. Max Gear is made for rear end with friction modifier already mixed in.

I hope its not a sign of clutch obliterating itself. o_O
Do you the original OEM clutch?

but in the owners manual it says to use a gl4 or gl5 75 90W gear oil with this transmission despite the fact that it syncros. I read into the syncromax but viscosity of the fluid is a lot like ATF fluid. it is a OEM clutch but it doesn't slip or anything. I hope that its not killing itself, sounded like a loud clack with a hard jolt. it will do it in the morning when I first take off.. but it only does it once.. then its fine..

I work at a dealer also we've replaced many aisin trans out of the fjs and tacos for synchro issues, they seem to go bad reguardless of how owners drive, just go to the dealer and tell them the 3rd gear syncros are grinding intermittently while shifting and that you want it repaired or replaced. Switching fluids will help but the grind will come back at some point in the life of the trans. If your anywhere near Amarillo tx I'll drop a trans in for you no questions and our dealer could probablywork with your warranty fron your dealer.

I live in weatherford texas juat outside of fort worth. Im going to call toyota and complain and then go to another dealer. On another note is the 350z tranny a complete bolt up or does it require modding? Is there a link to this? Please let me know
