Higher power as in how much? I would argue the IRS it came with is fully capable of handling tons of power. but..that wasn't the argument anyways, my point is that the 03-04 cobra is one of the best muscle cars ever made and it had IRS.

Guys running sticky tires & launching are swapping out the IRS for SRA with as little as 450-500 HP; Tons of power? No.

You can do anything if you throw enough time & money at it (or just money)...

The mildly modded 8.8 SRA for the cobra guys is a much stronger rear and costs a lot less then making a bullet proof IRS.

Plenty of idiots on the road. IRS or SRA...doesnt matter.... that guy would have still crashed:laugh:

My 10 second car has IRS and it is rock solid all the way out to 190+ MPH.

Is this because they catastrophically failed? Or just because they wanted to?

I think that 95% + of customers would prefer an irs compared to a sra. Especially the 4cyl turbo guys, because they're obviously not interested in huge power, so the irs makes more sense. And most people even with the v8s will not have them modified to the point of blowing apart an irs system. For those 95% of people, the advantages of an irs will far outweigh any advantages of a sra.

Now that I think about it, back when I had my g8 there were a bunch of people pushing 700+hp through the irs, I believe with just upgraded axles. Then you have strength, plus better handling/ride quality than a sra. In fact I saw somewhere that a company was already developing 1 piece driveshaft upgrades and a 9 inch diff upgrade for the 2015 mustang irs system. That would be pretty bad ass

You know it's only a matter of time before the upgrades hit the street. That is a huge market, and you can bet multiple companies competing to sell their wares.

There will be strengthened axles, stronger ring & pinion assemblies, better/stronger LSDs, etc. That's what makes the car hobby great!

Yeah so I think that would appeal to a lot more people, having an irs with the option to use better axles for strength. The amount of people that want to make massive power and only go in a dead straight line is relatively small. And that's about the only time that a sra shows any advantage

SRA really isnt bad on good roads dude... In fact I am pretty sure the SRA boss beat the IRS camaro in the handling spec department.

How many people race their cars on a legitimate road course though?

Id probably say most performance minded Mustang owners are drag racers & straight line street racers.

My thing is that you cant travel and push twisty public roads to the limit like a total asshole unless you want to kill someone or yourself; there are too many blind corners occupied by pedestrians, bicycle riders, unmarked workzones, and hidden driveways.

Straight line performance is practical for street and strip, and IMO can be executed in a safe manner with proper visibility and no traffic.

So for straight line performance minded street and strip Mustangs SRA for me for sure.

The cost of actually building a reliable Cobra IRS apparently weighed enough to sway many people to make the conversion to SRA.

This doesnt mean I am saying all cars should be SRA or that all IRS systems are weak - but for a car like a Mustang that is used for straight lines a lot - no.

SRA Mustangs also weigh less.

Rumor was that ford was going to offer a 2015 SRA kit, im not sure how true that really is though.

Shit at the end of the day most people wouldn't care about or know the dif between SRA or IRS LOL.

I think you are right about IRS appeasing more people though.

We need to start a towing and body shop in myrtle beach that is only open during mustang week. I am beyond words that it is still going on despite the history of losers wiping out year after year. Remember kids, "Ricers" are not reserved for just non-usdm vehicles.

Ecoboost 4 banger News:

These guys are in the mid 12s with a tune

Fastest time ive seen so far is a 11.83 @ 115.34 MPH with a tune, slicks, and minor weight reduction.

V8 News:

Well the stock axles broke on the 2015 IRS 5.0 AM car trying to get into the 10s N/A.

They upgraded them to DSS "1400 HP" shafts ($1,700.00) and with E85, some weight loss, and full bolt ons hit 10.62 @ 123 MPH N/A.

Then they have been spraying the car with a 150 shot and so far have a best of 9.91 @ 135.41 MPH.

There is a really nice twin turbo setup being produced for these cars and should be released soon (has been in the works for over 2 years now).

On 19" wheels with street tires they ran a 9.79 @ 141.59 MPH lol.

This is the general setup that ran 206.2 MPH at the Texas mile a few years back in 2012.
