Can someone send info on how to inspect the frame, and how to inspect the inside of the frame? How do you know whether the inside has been properly sprayed? Thanks.

you can use a small hammer and tap the frame. For the inside, use a scope camera. I don't have to worry any more, Toyota bought the X back from me.

I sure am lucky im in Georgia... I had my frame inspected and mine was like new and well taken care of.... funny thing is, they say all the oil I spill when I change my oil filter helps.

Just be careful when they spray that liquid de-icer on the road in the winter.

I have a mechanic with an 07 tacoma 4x4 with the frame problem. Toyota has his truck and will be 3 months before he gets it back. They gave him a Ford F 150 to drive. He hates it! Lol
We have seen just a few with the rust , so here in Colorado it hasn't been a common issue as of yet. But if it does become overwhelming Toyota will have a challenge keeping up.
I was under my X the other day and the frame looks brand new. But with 30k on the odometer I wouldn't expect anything.

My '05 went in for inspection on Tuesday and failed. I'm going back in 3 months (yes, months), to have the frame replaced. I guess there's a back order of new frames. Dealership had a pile of 7 or 8 used frames in the side parking lot.

My '05 also went in for inspection and failed. This is after about 3 weeks at the dealer, who originally said it was taken to another dealer in a different county where spraying is allowed to get sprayed. I was told it will take 2 months to get the frame, and once the frame is in, another 3 weeks for the work. The good news is I will be able to drive my truck until the frame comes in.

Crappy crap crap- while changing the oil and working on my truck the other day, I found a significant patch of rust in the area shown beside the cat- googling it today, and searching the forum, I find out it may have been covered under a recall ? Does anybody know if this recall still applies in Canada? I'll try to get in asap but hope I'm not too late! Love my truck, bought it in October used, and haven't had any issues until the battery died on Saturday. Thought it may have been a starter issue, which is why I was underneath it and saw the rust. Will keep informed as I go! Cheers from Nova Scotia, Canada.

From what I was told by the dealer the frame recall has lapsed. Ended in March or April I believe.

Well, all is not lost yet, had it to the local dealer, they took a bunch of pics, verified the rust perforation, took a copy of my ownership and permit and will submit it to Toyota Canada. He said it may take a few days for an answer, and will let me know. Also said they have 4 Tacos sitting on the lot with bad frames and lapsed safety inspections, that they are paying for rentals while Toyota builds the frames. Fingers crossed, hoping to hear back soon. He said to budget $$1-2000 for incidentals that may also need replacement ( shocks, power steering lines, etc) that aren't included under the replacement. Update to follow.. May need recomendations on soem upgraded rear shocks anyway, as the old ones look..old and crusty.

Crap, I should take a long look and make sure I'm not missing out on a new frame.

update: i just got a call form Toyota this afternoon about my frame, caught me by surprise as i thought this recall was over. i spoke with the rep and told her all the horror stories ive read here and she had no words to say. I also asked her if that this truck needs a frame that has the brackets for the x-brace and as usual she didn't know (cant blame her shes just a phone rep).
i never replied to the mails sent to me cuz i was iffy about the dealers and plus mines on bags. I did make an appointment on Monday for the SWB to get it checked and see what they say and go from there. Ill update you guys when i get some info, ill be sure to fwd crappy spray jobs

Sounds like there is a class action lawsuit and this is still ongoing.

@markgt531 they order for he frame by VIN number. The extra brackets and xbrace come with the frame. My dealer had never done a frame on an xrunner but my parts arrived complete.

I haven't done any recalls on my truck. I own it and try to determine which ones I feel are important and when I really want the dealership screwing with my truck. I really do need to get the seat belt recall done though; kind of an important one there.
