Just installed my URD spec-U exhaust today and I am also getting a hideous rasp anytime I'm on the gas.

Mine's not rubbing on anything, I'm using new URD gaskets etc... The Magnaflow exhaust I had before had no issues...

what kind of rasp? removing the cats makes the exhaust raspy normally...

There are several of us who have been dealing with this horrible rasp/buzz sound. I as well as another member have been trying all sorts of things to no avail currently. I have one thing I will be testing in the next two weeks and should hopefully be able to give everyone a detailed update as to how it goes

The resonating is part of it. I'm getting a really loud and unpleasant metallic hissing sound.

I have a different muffler on order which I'm hoping will help. I've gone back and tightened all the connections, including the header brackets and checked for leaks multiple times.

Interested to see if the muffler helps. I welded my v-band joint up thinking it was a sealing issue there. All my slip joints are copper RTV sealed. No change. My flex joint has a slight rattle to it when you tap on it. I pressure tested my intake to make sure I didn't have a leak there. I thought it was a noisy boost leak at first since I did injectors and a pulley at the same time.

The comments from Gadget here implies he believes it's an installation issue. I'd love to know what the "issue" is that we all share in common.

I gave up and just turn the radio up. My neighbor says my truck sounds amazing when I take off down the road. Shame I can't enjoy it too.

I have a TRD supercharger and upgraded fuel and intake. I know I am loosing some serious gains with all stock exhaust. I just hate to change anything because I am afraid of the rasp, rattles and other obnoxious noises that everyone complains about. Is there a perfect setup for more power without the extra noise?????????????????

I seriously considered building or having an X-pipe system built for my truck. I've had great luck with them on V8 cars.

But this is my daily and I told myself the welder is for the wheeler. I was pretty happy with all the URD stuff I'd purchased so far and I was going to make an order from them anyway, so I figured I'd go that route again.

I'm not ready to call that decision a mistake quite yet, but the X-pipe is back on the table now.

Typical Gadget response. If one of my suggestions doesn't fix it, it's your fault. I've sold a hundred and you're the only one complaining..... etc...

I had JBA long tubes, custom y-pipe and a Magnaflow cat back with a Vibrant resonator which was the single best Tacoma exhaust I had ever heard. Everyone who took a ride in my truck loved the sound.

No rasp, rattle or other obnoxious noise.

I've noticed that seems to be a pattern. I had an email exchange where I mentioned a slight bearing noise and the first or second line of his reply asked if I had damaged the bearing. This was for a kit that was just out of prototype phase. Oh well. Money is spent. Race parts = no returns. Live and learn.

Ya I took out my flex joint hoping that was the case and it wasn't. I also have tried two different manifold gaskets and no change. I have hangers on my Y pipe with no change and also wrapped my Y pipe collector with header wrap and no change. I have a 12" vibrant resonator coming that will be here in the next week and I get it welded in on the passenger side of the Y pipe and see if that helps anything. If it does I may buy a second one for the driver side. I would love to stay updated on if a different muffed changes things as well. Not very happy that the truck sounds better except for my$1k buzzer.

I tried the new muffler today and was much happier with the sound. It is the Magnaflow 14719.

The new muffler hasn't eliminated the rasp completely. It just sounds way better so the rasp is less noticeable.

Did it quiet down the hiss? Same volume level or louder? Got a sound clip yet? I'm interested.

Put a couple more miles on it today. The rasp and hiss have definitely subsided substantially. The exhaust sound has gotten a bit louder, and more trumpet-like.

It sounds better the harder you drive. Cruising drone is no more an issue than before. There is some resonance left but significantly less noticeable than before.

I will try to get a sound clip on Thursday.

It seems we have a few folks that are not as happy with the URD Spec-U racing exhaust system. I am very sorry for that.

Most simply rave about the system, but it seems that a few customers have an excessive amount of zing in the forward part of the system. URD would love the opportunity to work with those customers. If you are one of these customers with an excessive amount of zing in the forward part of the system please contact URD tech support. We have some ideas we would like you to tryout.
