Hi, I know this is a xrunner forum but you guys have more experience with FI basically on the same motor. Ok so I installed the magnuson SC on my FJ. I have the URD 2.85 red pulley, AFE CAI and MBRP Exhaust. I installed my O2 wideband after the cats and typically read 14.9 at idle which is .2 to .4 off due to being down stream but I am currently ok with that. I used the bully dog tune which was a mistake after some research haha

Here is my problem. My AFR reads 14.9 at idle and slight load/throttle up until I get into boost then it goes higher all the way to 16 I have seen. If I apply more load/throttle is drops instantly down to 11's and hauls butt. Now I think what is happening is that I am in closed loop even though there is boost, only goes open loop when I have a higher load/throttle then the AFR drops. I did purchase an AFR Calibrator to try and fix this problem but feel this is just a band aid as Gadget and others have said with the TRD flash they go into open loop anytime there is boost.

Opinions and suggestions are welcome.

I'd dump the Bully Dog junk for a UCON.

I would but looks like I am not able to uninstall the tune. They told us we could but the ECU calibration ID stays the same when I uninstall it.
So other option would be replace ECU, been doing some searching on buying a used ECU but its another unknown since no one has done it before. Ive been told only new ECU will work, however internet says with no immobilizer it SHOULD work, will have to get the VIN programmed though. Any one ever replace the ECU? Also the Calibration ID currently ends in a 200 and the newest TRD flash file the ECU calibration ID should end in 400, do you think that the dealer would be able to flash the ECU with the newer one? There was one guy that went to the dealer and they couldnt flash his taco becuase it already had the same Cal ID but in my case it would be different...

If you want to go UCON, I can get you setup and meet up with a guy to make sure we are compatible with the BullyDog flash. You might have to take a slight road trip, but it would be worth it.

It's worse than I thought. My coworker let me borrow a obd Bluetooth that shows when closed/open loop occurs. Turns out it goes to open loop with little throttle input as everyone suggested. So now I'm running lean 15.8 in boost unless I hammer down the throttle and then the afr drops between 10-11.5 where it's supposed to. So it's definitely the tune that the bd flashed to the ecu. I'll be calling you tomorrow gadget.

Yea, that is not going to happen. It is preset calibration file to meet the CARB certification.

Well I talked to the dealer yesterday, they said they can flash the ecm even though it's already flashed. In my case the ecu cal id now ends in 200 there is a newer cal id that ends in 400. Both ecu cal id's are for the supercharger. So maybe they will be able to flash it... fingers crossed I dropped it off this morning waiting to hear what they say. Sorry gadget I didn't want to call you until I tried this first.

As far as I've ever heard this is incorrect. Let us know how it turns out.

Dealer said the calibration file reads it has the correct ID and they cant do anything... This is a copy and paste of what I just posted on tacomaworld thread.

Got off phone with BD. This is what I learned. The bullydog is just the device that transfers the tune files which were created by magnuson. Therefore bullydog will not assume any responsibility on how the vehicle is running/tuned. I also asked about the return to stock feature, they told me the stock ECU information is saved on the BD device when you install the tune. I told them that I tried returning to stock as the user manual states however the ecu calibration ID or "vehicle details part number" (on the BD tuner) still reads 3YWK0200 which is the file for the supercharger. He couldn't give me an explanation as to why, just repeated that when you install the tune it backs up the stock ECU.

Given the above findings I would recommend to everyone they do not install the BD at all costs. Now for those of us that have are basically screwed. I just sent an email to magnuson tech support. Waiting for a call. Also left gadget a voice mail as well.

These are our options for us that are screwed.

1) used ecu ? -Might work with dealer programming for VIN, immoblizer if so equipt. Then have option for TRD flash or ECUMAP3/UCONN, etc.
2) New ecu -Will work with dealer programming for VIN, immoblizer if so equipt. Then have option for TRD flash or ECUMAP3/UCONN, etc.
3) UCONN - Gadget said he would get it to work, might have to drive some URD affiliate to help figure out BD mess.
4) MAPECU3 -You have to program
5) Burn your vehicle to the ground and file insurance claim.

It's a far stretch but have u disconnected battery over night? I thought I remember reading that the bully dog reflashes but doesn't reset all the parameters like the trd flash does. Worth a shot and it's free.

Not overnight, but I have had it disconnected for a while though. I am 99% sure this wont work but will do it tonight I guess.

question for you guys, I am trying to rule out fuel delivery as a problem. It wouldn't be the fuel pump or fpr right? If it was either one of those then I wouldn't run an afr of 10 or 11 when I am wot right?

I would say most likely not, but i'm not an expert like some others.
I think the typical fuel pump/filter issues seen on the FI trucks is lean condition at WOT when the fuel can't keep up.
As for the FPR I know some people hook it up different when they supercharge or turbo, but again I think it's mainly for WOT. It sounds like your issue is all related to the fuel trims set up in your tune in a specific area, and not lack of available fueling. I'm not sure anything but tuning will add the extra fuel you need.
