Hello all this is my first post here. I just purchased an 06 X Runner with 52k. It has some mods and the check engine light is on. I took the gamble and. Bought it. Mods are as follows
Doug Thorley long tube headers
Magnaflow ss catback
URD cold air
NST light weight pullies
URD map Ecu
URD O2 stimulators
URD short throw
Oil pressure and oil temp gauges
And a few other things.

Previous owner told me about the light coming on. I drove it home with the light on and ran fine. I cleared the codes and started it only to have the light flashing and it was sluggish. Turned off and started it again and it ran fine but the light is constant on. I don't care about the mods. I have no issues going back to stock. I have all the parts except the air box. The codes are p0300, p0303, p0305, p0174. Any thoughts?

Kinda weird codes. 300 is random misfire. 303 is misfire on cylinder 3 and 305 is misfire on cylinder 5. 1,3,5 are on bank 1. Your 174 is lean on bank 2.

So I spoke to the previous owner. He never had an issue with a code prior to the headers, intake or the maf calibrator. I didn't ask if he changed any plugs or coils. I'm not a mechanic by any means which is why I'm here. I'm ready to get it back to stick and start from there and sell all the performance parts

I say take off the maf calibrator and see what happens. I've been running long tube headers for 3 years now and haven't had an issue yet. I would venture a guess that either the maf sensor is bad or that calibrator is jacking up your signal readings to the computer

Either would give a misfire code? I'm not a mechanic so sorry if it's a dumb question

I just bought my 2008 x runner last week with 107k miles . I had random multiple misfire . Cylinder 2 misfire . Cylinder 4 misfire . Passenger side is reading lean . Drivers side is reading rich .... runs fine off idle . A little shaky at idle but nothing to bad ...... the other day. I lost all power and check engine started flashing ..... I ended up replacing the three injectors on bank 2 .... since then I haven't had a misfire code come back . But I'm still getting lean passenger bank . Rich drivers side . I have compression and Fire . I'm. Thinking the vvt is sticking and has my timing stuck advanced on the drivers bank and that's why it's rich. I'm going to replace the vvt solenoids . Will let you know if this changes anything

I have had it idle low and alittle stuttering to. Yesterday I took it out and it was misfiring crazy. Sounded like and old ford. Keep me posted please. I'll be dropping it off at the shop in a week so I'll wait to hear what your results are

Ya best bet is to have it looked at. I could help u if u were local. Just gotta swap around plugs, coils, Injectors. And I don't think the maf cal has anything to do with it or else it would be lean on both banks not just one.

I'm a fully certified mechanic . The vvt. Is arriving Wednesday . If it does not fix the problem . I will be pulling the front cover to
Inspect. The timing chain to make sure it's not a tooth off . Or the guides and tensioner are performing properly . I WILL find the problem . Lol . And will def keep the forum posted

Considering mine only has 52k I doubt that would be an issue for me. Then again, I'm. It a mechanic. But I will be waiting for your diagnosis

Usually if the timing is off you can a cam crank correlation code. I've seen it happen on fj's. The chain actually stretches. Dunno why only on fj's

Fj cruisers have dual VVT. I think that's how the chain stretches. As for the po300 code that's a random misfire not isolated to a single cylinder. That maf calibrator if it went bad it could make the engine run way to lean and cause the misfire. That's why I say remove it and see if that changes anything

You are right . And I haven't gotten and. Crank/ cam correlations on this . But It did read cylinder 2-4-6 misfire . I wanna check the cam phaser at the very least . See if it's gummed up . Hoping the previous owner was as anal about his oil changes as I am

I would do this first than anything else.

The previous owner did all the install himself and said the calibrator was difficult for him to install. From what you guys are saying I'll guess he mixed a wire or two. He said he didn't have the cel light on till after that and the intake and exhaust.

How about doing a plug check or change? Recomended service on them is 30,000 miles. Then I would swap the two aid fuel sensors and see if it codes the same or switches sides.
