. So, the motor and trans will be out for the frame replacement, clear of the front and rear drive shafts and headers. The top bellhousing bolts are easily accessible, so no struggling there. So, are these some fair, conservative times to present to the dealer?

0.5 hours to take apart and reattach the bellhousing
0.5 hours to take off, resurface, and reattach the flywheel
0.25 hours to change out the rear main seal
1.0 hours to install disc and pressure plate
0.5 hours to screw around w/ the center console
0.5 hours to install URD throwout bearing
??? hours for what else?

Still seems high IMO. I’ll check my glove box for the paperwork. Not sure if I still have it. @o0opackersfano0o would know the hours better than me. He’s the yota tech.

I am just trying to get to a point they will concede to. I already spent all of today doing all the other crap they over-quoted me to do around the rest of the truck (cv boots, shock replacements, valve cover, S/C spark plugs, etc.

Any real data would be greatly appreciated!!!

What’s it 8 bolts and maybe another 1/2hr to do the clutch once you’re in there? This place quoting him 6.5 when the engine and trans will already be out is highway robbery

Thank you, I appreciate the help from you and NHX. Your information will certainly be helpful. I drop the truck off tomorrow morning for the frame replacement, but will certainly re-engage them with your information.

I don't do frames but my good friend does them all. And he replaces shock and everything for free. Cuz they need to come out anyways and easier to replace with New parts. And they will
Usually call with stuff they recommend to replace or broken stuff that's rusted. A lot of sway bar links break.

3.8 hours for x runner with r&r of flywheel. and thats regular pay not with the motor and trans out already

You have to rev the engine up to create the inertia needed to get the truck moving. Most noticeable on hill starts.

Thank you. Does that account for replacement of rear main seal and throwout bearing? I guess that's about 15 minutes of work. Also, what is book time on resurfacing of the flywheel instead of R&R 15 minutes...probably some set up time, so maybe 30 minutes instead?

BTW, the service manager tried to build a case that the transmission bellhousing was more difficult to separate from the motor with it out of the truck because the motor was "crated." I couldn't follow along to his description. In my mind it seems like the motor would be hoisted. You would slide a transmission lift under the transmission and attach it. Then separate the two. I don't see how that would make the separation more difficult. You have easy access to the harness and top two bolts. Does the shape of the engine hoist or whatever fixtures Toyota uses make it difficult to get a transmission jack under the transmission for this separation?

If that's the case they can do the cutch once the motor is back in the truck. The drive shaft will be out already. Place seems shady as hell. I'm doing a clutch right now on a 4wd and it's paying 4.3. Had it out in an hour.

@o0opackersfano0o, thanks for all of the help on this. We settled on $330 for labor (pressure plate, disc, flywheel, rear main seal, throwout) + shop fee to resurface flywheel.
