Clutch pedal mod details

Before I bought my truck a year and half ago, I read some where on how to mod your clutch petal for better transfer. Anyone about this or has done it? Much thanks.

The 3 penny method is one ive seen before.... is that an alternative to the chair foot screw or one to do in conjunction?

They both accomplish the same thing. I prefer the screw method because it is more secure. Not sure I trust super glue indefinitely and its easier to go back to stock if needed.

With the throwout bearing issues of this truck I would advise against this mod.

It's been on several trucks for many years...if the bearing is going to go, it's going to go, IMO

If you choose to do this mod, just check that it is adjusted properly afterwards. 2 ways are Coupe's method of checking that the fluid fills the reservoir completely or ensure piston is at the top of it's travel with the pedal released. Many owner's including myself have done this mod with years of driving and no bad results. As with every mod you want to gather information, understand the results, determine your needs and perform properly.

I did this and the foot height that I got was a little to tall and it caused the clutch to slip. I replaced it with a 1/4" diameter nylon bolt that was about 3/4" long in thread length. The height of the bolt head was a smidge under 1/4" where as the original green button thing was a little less than 1/8". I would not have though a 1/8" difference would have taken up the slop in the clutch but mine feels better.

I don't see this as a good idea if adjusted wroung and the barring is going to go as the clutch wares this will become an issue

I drove around today riding the clutch tell i felt that the free play was to little and from what i gather it's not much for me to even care about plus you kinda want free play further more with eh amonte of shitty toyota lag in the gas pedal it's kinda point less, mix this with a fast shift frist to secound still going to buck like the little bitch the tacomas shitty laggy throttle is

toyota did this on purpose to slow down your shifting, I had to teach my self how to shift the x runner coming from cable driven cars this was down right so annoying

That's why you need to adjust it properly.....there are a lot of mods that can be detrimental if done wrong.....if adjusted properly this just lowers the pedal and still provides complete engage/disengage functionality.

main point doing is trying to make the clutch faster when ever thing is so slow to responded, this is one main reason I have yet to build a short shifter for this truck( have the nylone to do it but it's not going to magically make the truck better just more of hand feel, since I like soild shafts and to feel the gate more

I am pretty sure short throw shifters and Sprint Boosters are available to cure your other shifting complaints....if you know where to shop ;-)

I have both actually. Its gets tricky since now the throttle response is higher. I could lower the response but it kinda defeats the purpose of the Sprint Booster. Also I read on 5 min mod thread that this helps if you have a stage 3 clutch? But if works, why not?

it doesn't fix shit the pedal has lag from the factory you have to change the codeing to fix this some cars are just so horrible then ya mix it with an auto and take for ever to think on how it wants to work (caugh) any thing built by hyudai most numb gas pedal ever

the arp x 1 that I have removed some of the lag it's still there but it's much better and I can slam shift as hard as I want and it will not buck. I had an throttle control pulled it out and sold it because they are just not worth it on 6 speed truck

auto transmisson the throttle controller works well because it fools the transmission so it will alter the shift points and how hard it shifts.

any who having free play is nice to have because i even catch my self some times with my foot on the cluthc pedal and not the dead pedal when at a traffic light some times that what free play is for that and heat

I had this done to my truck for about 4 years. I was actually one of the original ppl who ran the mod. I made sure the pedal was adjusted properly every oil change. When my throw out bearing went to the squeal I left it in after putting the upgraded urd bearing in and no matter how I had the clutch adjusted it would not work. I removed it. For the gain you get from the mod it’s not worth the hassle. The trans shifts like crap anyway. Yes it’s a cheap mod and if done right sure it will be fine but make sure you never rest your foot on the clutch on accident and keep it adjusted every oil change.

it's waste of time

it's some what the same thing as running clutch pedal stop but they are crap as well my vote leav it alone and watch is fall apart like the pos will do any way
