Getting the 09+ Stock sub to work with an aftermarket Head unit

On the Kenwood instructions it is called the "Dimmer control wire" and on the metra harness it is called the illumination wire. I guess when I was testing the radio earlier I didn't have the truck "On", just at "ACC" to test the radio and when I actually turned the truck on it must have fried...

Getting the 09+ Stock sub to work with an aftermarket Head unit

I checked every fuse in the truck. Although when I pulled IGN 2 out under the dash, the cluster lit up when the parking/headlights were set to off. I'll pop the dimmer in the morning and take a look at it.

Getting the 09+ Stock sub to work with an aftermarket Head unit

Can you pop the dimmer out without removing the whole dash?

Getting the 09+ Stock sub to work with an aftermarket Head unit

So this ended up being embarrassing. Turns out it was caused by the wires for one of the rear speakers being backwards. The speaker worked but the signal was not being received properly by the sub. Now to figure out why my instrument cluster backlight stopped working....

Getting the 09+ Stock sub to work with an aftermarket Head unit

So still no progress. I am running it up to one of my buddies who is a car stereo installer to put his mind to work on it.

Getting the 09+ Stock sub to work with an aftermarket Head unit

I'll provide an update Monday evening as I will be away from the truck for a few days. I really appreciate all of the advice so far.

Getting the 09+ Stock sub to work with an aftermarket Head unit

Yes, and the sub goes right back to working normally.

Getting the 09+ Stock sub to work with an aftermarket Head unit

Haha not that crazy. Yes it is on, I've left it in the on+light position so that it is also lit up.

Getting the 09+ Stock sub to work with an aftermarket Head unit

I cranked the bass boost and subwoofer level settings to the max and I can barely hear the sub make noise when I turn the volume near max. It looks like it is getting signal but not enough power for the amp? that is built into it.

Getting the 09+ Stock sub to work with an aftermarket Head unit

Here is a pic of the new harness connected to the stock harness: I just noticed that the tan wire does not have a corresponding wire on the new harness. I can plug a wire in but I have no idea where it connects onto the new harness.

Getting the 09+ Stock sub to work with an aftermarket Head unit

The ceiling speakers are working. I even adjusted the fade so that it was only sending audio to the back speakers. The subwoofer lights up when I turn the knob to the light position so it appears to have power just no signal.

Getting the 09+ Stock sub to work with an aftermarket Head unit

Hey guys and gals, I am trying to install a Kenwood DNX691HD head unit into my truck and have everything working except for the factory sub. I really don't want to install an aftermarket sub and amp as my cab is pretty tight on space as is. Is there something special in the wiring that I need...

    Boost Pressure

I went out and followed your steps to the letter. Vacuum moved to about 9 and then dropped back down to 21 after a second or so. Looks like the cats are fine.

    Boost Pressure

What are the chances of my truck having a clogged cat(s) considering it is only 4 years old with 41k miles on it? Seems way too early to be facing issues such as that. Also, fuel mileage and power are perfectly normal which are generally symptoms of a clogged cat.

    Boost Pressure

I've had a TRD S/C installed on my truck for almost two years now with a boost gauge and I am used to seeing 6 PSI under WOT. This morning I punched it to merge onto traffic and my boost gauge read 8.5 PSI which seems abnormally high. The only changes I have made around the S/C are the URD fuel...

Are the gatorbacks not that great of a belt? Seemed to be the common one a lot of folks switch to

    Limits of TRD tune

I did forget to mention that I have the URD fuel pump already. I guess I'll start with the intake and go from there, I noticed that URD has it on sale right now. Thanks for the help everyone!

    Limits of TRD tune

I have an AEM wideband installed right after the first cat. When I floor it, it generally gets rich enough that the gauge pegs (it goes to 10)

    Limits of TRD tune

I'm looking to perform a few final upgrades on my 2009 OR that is TRD supercharged. I drive it daily and would like to have a little more power to keep my oversized tires moving. I know that the TRD tune and the TRD fuel injectors have their limits and it is easy to exceed them and lean out the...

    boost gauge installed - questions

My TRD S/C pegs at 6 PSI under WOT every time. I'm sitting at 300 ft above sea level according to the interwebz. Check to make sure the fitting is tight but your vacuum is reading correctly. I usually sit at 20-21 at idle as well.
