Hey guys, first off just wanna give forewarning that this will be a slow build and will be going the pace of what my wallet can handle. Build will include the following in this order(hopefully) -Custom Front mount turbo kit with a goal of 400hp as a Daily driver.... For now... -Cosmetic stuff for my truck will most likely be later down the road I've been hanging around the forum readin up on some great builds,(torspd, toon, etc) and just been loving them. I've been workin up the courage to finally go this route for my taco and what pushed me to do it was after helping my brother build his front mount kit for his truck and took a ride in it. Hence the boost addiction began. So I will be asking for assistance from the community and I hope I can share info that's valuable in return. So without further a due..... Here's some goodies that I got so far So I purchased these items from VS racing over on Theturboforum and got really deal. It's called the Denmah special, which has been tested with proven reliability and approved by him. (*Denmah is pretty famous for his builds over on ls1tech, turboforum, and sloppymechanics. ) Here's what's included.... 1 GT 45 Turbo 1 GT 45 discharge and clamp 1 3" intercooler 31*12*3 1 60mm WG 1 50mm BOV 1 2.5" ic piping kit with couplers black oil drain and feed braided setup t4 divided flange ***FREE ITEM **** Turbo T4 blanket The specs on the turbo are..... The turbo is GT45 1.05AR 77mm turbine with 69mm compressor For more info on the turbo, I can pm you the info/link if interested I Will be using the wastegate in this kit as a paper weight/ornament on my desk as it will be replaced with a Precision turbo 46mm wastegate. I took apart the turbo to check for anything in it internally and it's a good thing I did. Also checked for any shaft play and there wasn't any so it was good to go! Look what I found. That woulda done some damage wouldn't it!? Got this very important piece from Coupe. Will be installing at next oil change. Also, Thanks to the influence of Torspd , I purchased a spare motor to do a forged build on the side.... But that will be on the back burner.
looks like you are off and running... good idea for the spare motor, you may need that down the road lol
Can't wait to see your build, looks like this will be a interesting one, at least I can follow this one from the start!
Nice looking intercooler there. With rounded bars instead of square. Easier for air to flow over. Any word on the headers, up pipe stuff yet?
Looks like you're off to a good start. Keep on collecting pieces and soon you'll be up and wooshing... Your dog looks happy for you too! :top:
Thanks fellas! Really looking forward to this! Like BSP mentioned, I still have a lot of parts to gather for this build, it'll just take me awhile. In the mean time ill try get get wrenching on my motor. Just been really busy with stuff coming up so my weekends haven't been available to start the tear down. Yes! I got in touch with Jeremy from powerfab with an update. ...here's email as of Monday 4/22/13 James, I'm out of the office today, orders in place, materials in transit, our fabricator wants to add a few reinforcements to the jig he builds the taco parts off of, so we've got that on the schedule to occur, and then your set is going to be the 1st one produced from it after that. Schedule wise for reinforcing the jig were looking at end of week beginning of next as we have to pull the original parts off the development vehicle each time we modify the jig to ensure nothing moves while reinforcing. Helps assure perfect fitment when it arrives to you :-D. Jeremy Cozad PowerFab Automotive Pretty excited about this one. Hopefully sik can chime in and keep us updated as well with his fabrication dopeness.
Wow! Nice start! Turbo is good for 2x your goals and may be a little laggy on the 1gr but once it starts making boost it is gonna go! Keep everyone updated on this.....
Yes i do expect lag and I'm curious when the boost will kick in. It spools pretty quick on my brothers truck but his is a v8. We'll see what happens.
What did you put this turbo on and how does it perform? Just guessing it should start making boost in the 2000-2400rpm range on an otherwise stock 1gr depending on tune.
Its on my brothers 2003 4dr silverado. By 3000rpm On a roll it hits full boost. He doesnt boost off the line because of weak trans. It hauls ass with this turbo
Haha. Yea well u had such an influence that it makes me want to buy your work wheels from you but we know you wont let that happen. With everything I have planned compared to what I already have, it feels like this is going to be a never ending build.
My work wheels are too rare to sell. It wont be long till ur boosted. Also wat tuning are u gonna be using? I would recomend ProEFI to control ur beast. :top:
And that's why I want em.... Lol I would love to have proEFI but there aren't much tuners in hawaii that are familiar with it. At this point I'm leaning towards the AEM ems that powerfab has since tuners here have worked with it. Figired i can probably use their pretuned setup they have for the kit they built for Clifford and have a tuner in hawaii work the kinks out.
On a side note... Today were workin on My brothers silverado. Changing his gt45 turbo to a precision 7675 and switching his wastegate to a precision 46mm. Installing a trans cooler in the mix Forgot to take photo with everything buttoned up but better than nothing.
