It's been about 2 months since I did this. Working on another dash kit that looks more factory.

I bought the Sony MEX-GS600BT deck, because this seemed like the perfect solution to get audio, without installing a Bit One, or a separate amplifier. Plus the fact that the App Remote can be used to function the entire deck, that was a plus. I also have Axxess ASWC universal steering wheel control connected to the deck as well. This allows me to control the iPad too, through the deck.

I wanted a dash kit, that would allow me to use the Sony deck, but also allow me to hold my iPad mini (still in case and with Smart Cover).

This is what I came up with. I'm making another one at the moment that looks more factory built, but this is what I've been rocking for that past 2 months. Also have a Clear Puck in my truck for internet access. Spotify is GREAT on the road!

I had a double din Pioneer deck. It was too big to recess in the dash. I originally was gonna go another route, but when I discovered the Sony deck with the App Remote, I instantly bought that instead. I can control everything through the iPad.

I wanted to run mine through bluetooth, but the problem was the deck only took one bluetooth source, so I couldn't pair my iPad and iPhone at the same time. I wanted my phone to pair, so I could make calls. So my iPad Mini is connected to the deck with the Lightning Cable, and iPhone through bluetooth. Whats also cool is the iPad App Remote has bluetooth audio stream, and phone options in it, so I can make call from my iPhone through my iPad Mini, and talk through the mic, and hear through speakers. And stream any audio from my iPhone, and control it from the iPad Mini....does this make sense? haha!

That is awesome.

When they announced the mini, I thought it would be perfect for the XR.

Yes it does haha.
My deck gets two on the Bluetooth so I have my phone and ipad connected at the same time so I guess I got lucky haha :hmmmm2:

that looks really good! are you planning to post some 'how to' directions? I'm thinking about doing this but with my Note 2.

Doing a "How To" on this would be hard, since I've already done it.

I can tell you that it involves fiberglassing your iPad or tablet, cutting the crap out of your dash kit, more foberglassing, a ton on body filler, sanding, and painting. It took me 2 weeks to get this thing in my truck, and I'm not 100% satisfied with it.

As for you, the Galaxy Note 2 might be kinda small and look weird. I do know that it would be a lot less work if you did use the Note tho. And you would have to do Bluetooth.

thanks. I've never done fiberglass, which only means another great opportunity to learn. I found a there is a dock for the note which already has connections for sound, power and a couple of usb. but in the end does sound like a lot of work.

I had a thought of putting a small touch screen in my truck connected to a computer mounted in the dash somewhere. But after seeing this I might go with the mini approach.

iPad Mini is definitely the way to go. Having a carputer is cool and all, but costly and also much more complicated. The hardest part of this install is making the pan for the iPad to sit in, in the dash kit.

If you or anyone needs help or advice, hit me up. I'll do what I can to help over the forum.

Yes. It's removable. It allows me to remove it and still keep my case and smart cover on the iPad Mini.

Making them to sell would be a pain in the butt for me. I just don't have the time to do so. But like I mentioned, I can help over the forum if needed.

Yes. It's VERY Stable! I've hit some bad bumps and taken some sharp turns, and the thing doesn't budge. If you notice, I body worked lower corner tabs to prevent it from slipping out. That combined with the lightning connector, it's good!
