I called a local shop today and had them set me some amsoil 75-90 gl4 to the side. When I got there it was already bagged so I paid and left. Well long story short, I get home pull the fluid out and one is 75-90 gl5 and the other is 75-110 gl5. Is the gl5 bad for our trans and could these be possibly mixed.

I think gl4 and gl5 are compatible

Don't quote me on this but I believe you can mix the two different weights... thanks to the military

You will end up with something between the two weights..

I'm pretty sure gl-5 in the trans will destroy the synchros

i read the amsoil recommendations. It says Gl4 and Gl5. But would the mixture of weights be safe in our trans.Manual Transmission,RA60 (6-SPD)......GL-4
All TEMPS......75W-90
Synthetic Manual Transmission and Transaxle Gear Lube (75W-90) API GL-4 (MTGQT)
Manual Transmission,RA60 (6-SPD)......GL-5
All TEMPS......75W-90
SEVERE GEAR 75W-90 Synthetic EP Lubricant (SVGQT)
75W-90 Synthetic Long Life Gear Lube (FGRQT)
SAE 80W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube (AGLQT)

Recommend taking it back and getting the correct stuff. My primary beef with Amsoil is the fact they don't really describe what oil goes where...they seem to take a "one size fits all" approach. I stick with Redline which is very specific about what oil goes where.

They have this statement for their GL-4 oil:
"Appropriate coefficient of friction for most manual transmission synchronizers (other's synthetic gear oils are often too slippery for proper synchro engagement)"

They have these comments/warnings about their GL-5 oil:
"Contains additional friction modifiers for suitability with clutch-type limited slip differentials - for most LSDs, no additional friction modifiers are required"

"This product is not designed for use in most manual transmissions or transaxles in passenger vehicles, since the extreme slipperiness may cause synchronizer mesh issues that lead to shifting problems"

http://www.redlineoil.com/application.aspx

If I were to use Amsoil, would definitely only put GL-4 in the transmission, and GL-5 in the diff (and hope their GL-5 had the LSD additives.)

Thanks for the input, going to head back to the store Monday.
