Ok, so the check engine light came. Had the coded pulled at O' Reilly's and they said it was the cam position sensor. So where is this bugger at and how much of a PITA is this gonna be? BTW, they said it was the one on the passengers side.

Every cam shaft position sensor I've replaced on vehicles is super easy, but I haven't had to do one on an X

Super easy but what's the code?

They both sit right under the intake plenum/ throttle body. So you will have to remove the intake plenum. It takes me about
15 minutes to pop mine off. Before you replace something I would recommend that you are sure that is the answer

That code is not telling you there is a fault in the sensor. It is saying there is something wrong with the cam timing control system.

It is a pretty in depth diagnostic to find the problem.

The easy thing you can do is to unplug the connectors and check for corrosion. Just had a customer with bad corrosion in the sensor and the control valve connectors. Very strange, but he got it cleaned up and solved the problem.

Ok, thanx for the help. I'll check the connection and see what that gives me.
I saw the other thread where the guy pulled the oil control valve out and cleaned it and that seemed to solved his problem.
Where is the oil control valve?

Look at the head. You will see a solenoid pointed towards the intake with an electrical connector. The ECM cycles it to control oil flow to the cam adjuster and make the cam timing change.

cool, thanx guys. I checkedc my connector, pulled the OCV and cleaned it. I did see some gunk in there so that may have been it. Thanx for all the help.

Do you have to pull the valve covers to remove the OCV? It looks like it is buried under them and I don't want to pull it without a new gasket and the proper torque and torque sequence to reinstall it.

I pulled the OCV yesterday. Just one 10mm hex head cap screw. No big deal. I am still guessing the valve covers have to come off for the cam position sensor though.

Both can be pulled out without the valve cover being removed.

I removed the OCV on the passenger bank and cleaned it. It came out pretty easily with one cap screw (10 mm I think). No need to remove the valve cover. I did not try the cam position sensor though.
