So as stated, I plan on clay barring when it starts to warm up. So I have some paint chips(who's X doesnt). Well Im wondering if my clay barring will cause more harm than good. Of course Ill be using lubricant and all that good stuff. What do you guys think?

clay bar does wonders for removing fall out and what not. the only down side effect is that it can scratch your x if you have grits of dirt on it. my best advice to you would be to maybe get a chemical called "fallout" which is acidic and removes fall out onthe body. safe enough that it wont burn the paint. if not, wash, then clay your x. and follow up with some nice wax. good lucky!

Unless you drop your claybar or have some stuff stuck on your truck that could scratch claybar does more good then harm. Just give it a thorough wash, fold / knead your claybar after working on a section, and keep the surface lubricated you should be golden.

:dito: as far as the chips go, i would just be a little careful around them and just make sure your not chipping off anymore. Other than that you should be fine. :top:

While we are on the subject, I havent clayed before so how do I know when a section of the truck Im working on is done and its time to move on to the next section? Is it just by feel or will I be able to see it?

You will know when a section is done when no more contaminants are lifted from the area and visible in the clay.

You will definitely be able to feel the difference.

Clay barring wont scratch the truck as long as its hand washed properly prior, you don't drop the clay, you kneed the clay often, and you use plenty of good lube :top:.

If the paint chips are loose enough to come off by clay they are doomed anyway and should be filled in; just be easy around them.
