So as told by Dan, the engine and trans are out. Started around 10am, plus a 1 hour lunch break had her out by 2pm. Wasn't that bad. Hard part was solved by us afro engineering the cherry picker to hold the trans up, through the shifter hole in the cab. An extra set of hands or second jack would have made it easier, but you make due with what you have. :top:
Two weeks for now, will be installing my blower on Dans truck, and just waiting on hottacox, hich means some $$$$...then comes the fun part of picking out which LS i want...
I actually found complete 05/05 GTO engine, trans, accys, ecu and harness in my price range...If i take an engine and harness/ecu from a 05 or newer car/truck, i can actually make my truck smog legal if i so please. Just need a EVAP canister from a GTO. If my illegal smog hook-up falls through, its nice to know i can make it road legal if needed
It also helps that that engine is a LS2...so 405 crank hp. Which is nice. More power is always nice...Down side being its drive-by wire. So many options, like a kid in a candy store. :crinklehair:..so many choices...
One idea i have been toying with is just putting everything in, as is in a "Stock" form, just so i can get it all running, in, mounted plumed and wired. Then worry about building it, modifying and making more power. It will be much easier to track down teething problems if the engine is stock, with stock internal components. So i cant blame drivabilty problems on tune, parts...etc. :top: Will still do things like the upgraded clutch and oil pan. As both of those are 100% needed to for the build and some sort of drift reliability. Custom headers and intake are a given...Then once i learn more about these engines, i can pick out the right mods to really make her scream
Plus....it will end up back on the road much faster...:blurock:
Oh, my SPEC clutch after 25k miles of VERY hard driving was in excellent condition. No stress cracks on it like my Comp clutch had, no sings of fatigue and failure. Loads of material left too. Finally, i found a part in our Toyota parts catalog that i finally call drift approved. :top:
