I'm about to jump ship and change the tranny fluid in 2012XR this weekend. Just wanted to know all the do's and don't from other's trial and errors. :adore:

There's a write up on here on it under the how-to section if you take a look.

it's pretty straight forward. Drain plug is on the bottom and easiest way to fill is through the top of the shifter. Just remove the center console and pop the shifter out and fill through the hole.

i believe it takes 1.9 quarts.

just search transmission fluid change and the write-up should pop up

Did mine the 2 weeks ago it's really easy, as long as you fill through the shifter I did it from under the truck through the fill hole and it took forever...

I did mine on a lift, but I found if you get about 3 feet of clear hose and stick it in the hole and run the hose up through the drivers side wheel well and cram a funnell in the end of the hose that was easy too, one person pours fluid and one person holds the hose in the hole

I appreciate the replies. I probably will end up completing everything from the bottom because I have the filler tool (plastic squirt gadget) to accommodate the servicing.

I'm about ready to change out the fluid and was wondering whether on not jacking the front end up enough to get under there to drain/service the tranny would affect the proper level (qts) required.

It might affect filling to proper level if the front end is higher, its a lil tricky getting all 1.9 QTS in the fill hole as it is because it spills out when its full

I guess I will wait until I can get to a lift (Auto Hobby Shop) since this will be my first time changing out the fluid. Thanks for the quick response....I was about to get underneath and start the task but decided to check the website again prior to draining. :hmmmm2:

Or if you fill it from the shifter you don't need a lift..it's really easy only takes about 10-15 mins to pull the console and remove shifter

I usually lift er up set it on the stands undue the drain plug let most of it come out then set it down, remove the shifter while the rest of it drains then jack it back up to replace the drain plug and BAM add fluid and shift like butter!!

How difficult is it to remove the shift console etc.? I don't recall seeing a step-by-step write-up on the removal.

You don't have to remove the whole console. At least I don't anyways. You can remove just the shift boot. You just grab each corner and kinda pull it away from the corner and push down it wil just pop out. Do that to each corner take the shift knob off and your good to go.

^after that there's a spring loaded ring around the shifter base, push it down and turn it a quarter turn and the whole shifter arm will pull out

Is this the outer ring you are talking about or do I need to remove the four base plate bolts first?

That ring around the inside you push down on the sides and turn counterclockwise I believe it is and then it will release and you can pull the shifter out
