just remember a lot of wax doesn't mean better protection... take your time and don't rush...:top: take a couple of break in between and drink some beer...its always better to watch some football and polish the car at the same time...

I ordered the waxer/polisher and a foam gun about 5 days ago and both came in yesterday. I also ordered a LOT of microfiber towels in various colors to help keep the different products separated.

I also ordered two wash mitts.

I tried out the foam gun and wash mitt combo last night, using dish detergent (i know, but there was a reason for using that soap) and washing the entire truck took less than 20 minutes, and came out better than I had ever achieved through a car wash, hand wash, professional wash and wax, etc.

I am very pleased with what turned out to be a pinacle branded foam gun.

Now I just need to locate the wax and polish products and the pads. Think im headed to O'Reileys for some Meguiars NXT products.

The reason for the dish soap....less than 2 weeks ago I paid for a professional hand wash and wax of my truck. I was horrified to find out hte truck went through an automated wash and afterwards they used a revolving (not orbital) waxer to apply the wax. I noticed what looked like a nice white line of wax on the hood of my truck. When the truck was finished, that same white line was still visible, I asked the manager to buff it out. He told me it wasnt wax but a scratch. I went over to investigate...yep a scratch, brand new and down to bare metal.

Long story short, they did a half assed job of washing and waxing my truck, did over 650+ in damage to my truck, and probably lowered the resale value quite a bit. On top of that, they denied responsibility for the damage to the hood.

2 days after leaving the car wash, my truck seemed to be covered all over in dirt, like it had been sitting under a tree for 6 months. The wax they applied was attracting dirt real bad.

So the whole purpose of using the dish soap was to get their wax off my truck. It was doing a real number on my truck, it was the worst my truck had ever looked since Id owned it.

Now, my waxer, I took it apart last night, the bolt holding the pad in place had a 8/16th bolt head. I dont have the tools available to measure the thread, etc. Can I still buy more common pad sizes and a backing plate and use them with my waxer?

One good thing came out of the whole incident, it finally gave me an excuse to have a scooped hood fitted along with having the front grill satoshi'd and color matched. it also gave me a reason to have some bush related scratches on the passenger side fender repaired and new BLHs ordered. All of which will be completed Monday. As soon as the hood is painted Im taking the truck to get 3M clear bra'd and then will polish and wax the rest of the truck.

So everything came yesterday, and right after I went straight to autozone and O'Reileys.

I ot a whole bunch of Meguiars deep crystal and nxt gen products and a clay kit.

I ran out of daylight before I could take photos, but I am truly impressed with the finish. I had watermarks that had been in place for nearly 6 months that disappeared, several, scratches that disappeared, and the finish...wow.

I was driving to a store for my wife right after I got done, looking ahead I saw the blockbusters sign, with a perfect reflection on my mirror finish hood, Wonderful!

Ill take some photos tomorrow, when theres daylight outside.

I used:

Meguiar's Deep Crystal Shampoo
Meguiar's Clay Kit
Meguiar's Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner
Meguiar's Deep Crystal Polish
Meguiar's NXT Gen 2.0 Wax
Meguiar's Ultimate Quick Detailing Spray

Bout 20 Microfiber towels, 2 wash mitts, the foam gun, a foam wax applicator pad, a large foam pad for the paint cleaner, and a wool pad for the polish, all applied by arm....yep left arm is dead.

I do have a tip though. After the initial wash, go inside a grab a PC chair with wheels, and park your car on concrete. Makes the lower half of the job so much easier. Only had to stand for the roof, hood, and A pillars/door tops.

Simoniz it... I work at a dealership and if you buy the two step process of wash and wax, it will protect against water spots, acid rain, bird crap, etc and it leaves the paint out of this world smooth and leaves one heck of a shine.!

Sounds like your off to the right start.

But FYI, even though you used the dish soap to get rid of the wax, it still isn't needed. Claying removes everything from the paint, including old wax. Sealants like Zaino are still debatable, but the general rule of thumb is that claying gives you a proper surface to buff with.
