I just purchased a RR 06 x runner yesturday and It is nicer than I expected it to be. I traded my 92 corvette for it, and as much as I hated to see that go, I can't believe the speed and handling these trucks have.

Anyway I was looking to get some good advice on what to use to wash and wax, and what parts of the vehicle I shouldn't wax. I also have a couple marks on it that need to be touched up. There is one small deep scratch on the tailgate that is through the paint and clear coat. There is also an area on the left rear fender where it looks a little chewed up to where you can see white, and it is a little rough to the touch. If I could get a little advice I would really appreciate it. Other than those two areas the truck is perfect w/ only 20,000 care drivin miles. Thanks again guys. - Karl

Also I'll try to get some pics up later today of the truck and the scratches.

Congrats on the new ride ! So you traded a Vette in for the X ? Though we might not have quite the torque of the Vette, these trucks handle surprisingly well. And if you add the TRD supercharger, you'll find yourself almost right back up there in the same torque class as your old Vette :top:

Now, for the paint issue, if I'm reading it right, you've got a scratch in the tailgate and chips in the rear fender ? If I read it right, the rear fender issue is, unfortunately, common. Almost everyone has it. it's like motorcycles and wrecks, if you haven't had one yet, you'll get into one eventually. There are a ton of threads all over the place on XRU about that, just do a search for "paint chip". I'm actually in the process of tearing my 05 BSP down to the ground and touching-up/repainting it for that very reason. The paint issue is one of the few flaws of these trucks (every vehicle has its weak point, even Toyotas :eviltongue:).

But, beyond the paint, I'm sure that you'll love your new ride and find it hard to resist the urge to mod and drive it

Welcome to the site...for the light scratches I would use the the 3m scratch remover then wax over the area. For the deeper ones, you'll have to do a little touch up paint on with a toothpick. The fenders of the trucks are the real problem, especially if you live in a rocky area. 3m film over the exposed areas are best but a little pricey but worth it. Everyone has their fave of waxes and polishes here. Maguiars, Ice, Sonas and Mother's. I like the microfiber towels at Costco and a good chamois to dry with. Good Luck...where are you from...

welcome!

The chips on the fender is an issue that we ALL have sadly. You will also get them on the front skirt. As far as paint maintenance since you have a RR you must wax it a lot. The RR's seem to fade quickly if the paint is not properly maintained. You can wax the whole truck. If you clay bar, which I recommend, watch out for the fender flares, mirrors, and the front of the truck cause some of the trucks lack a clear coat. Mine turned blue once on 1 fender flare

Thanks guys I was looking on here after i did the post and found that it is common on the fender. I am used to washing and waxing while I had the vette so that won't be an issue. The truck isn't exactly a vette but, I owned that and a gutless s10 that I drove daily so this has everything I want in one, instead of two vehicles. Thanks for all the advice.
