I didn't know you could buy just the 3rd member case new like that.
And it looks like the catalog answered my question about the ratios. According to that page, 3.58 gears will fit and set up properly in the X-Runner 3rd member carrier.

Edit: The above is WRONG. There are 13 pinion teeth on both the 3.15 and 3.31 ratio, and ring gear thickness for both is the same, so there's no fitment issues with these 2 ratios in the XR housing. The other ratios need the Prerunner 3rd member for them to work.
A whole 3rd member swap still works just fine. This edited portion is for those who try putting just the 3.58 gears in the XR 3rd member. It won't work that way.

from 3.15 to 3.58 isnt enough of a change for me to be worth it. 3.73 should be just enough to make it feel like a whole different animal. if you could buy these somewhere, ready to bolt in, with a plug and play box to recalibrate the speedo for $1500 then I would be all over it. how much do you have in your swap so far WCD? Civickilla?

yeah, dragged the X at test-n-tune tonight- these things are SLOW stock the gear ratios are all screwed up.

That's because they were never designed to drag, they came ready to Road Race :rock:.

But anything can be made into a drag racer.... Just look at what they've done to Bugs :bird:.

For the incorrect speed sensor issue might want to look into this. Now being that you can get an extra cab pre-runner 2wd with the 6 speed you should be able to take the speed sensor from that trans and put it into yours, being that its the exact same thing.

cmon man... a speed sensor just sends a signal. based on a ring in the trans... so the correct 6 speed transmission might be the key


doubt that will be cheaper than a converter box!!

Well yea the tranny has a gear but the speed sensor has a gear also and it's a 33 tooth so if you get one out of 6 speed pre runner it might have a diff tooth rate OR maybe the tranny has the diff tooth rate and not the speed sensor. I think its woth a try. How much does a converter box cost

130 bucks. I bought the gear set used and paid cost for an empty used 3rd member.

I could run some Prerunner tires and the speedo would read right.
But then I would lose my gearing advantage.

an apr X-one will fix the speedo so it will not cut out on u and u will be able to raise the top speed and rpm to get the most out of ur gears :top:

Either there wasnt one and I am losing my mind, or I just cant find the parts required list, with the details on the donor truck that you will need to find (for used parts) WCD can you make one? Part numbers or identifying marks would be great too.

I have a friend who has his own business doing differential work, and I want to run this by him. He may very well be able to come up with a package or a kit that makes this very easy. I am sure he could even build complete bolt in thirds, but they would be more expensive. I am thinking it would be more affordable to ship your complete third to him, have him build it and ship it back to you.
