Many of you guys know that I work at an advertising agency. We have our own in-house recording studio and we do our fair share of video editing (including 2 independent films, one that was at Sundance). The recording studio does have all Macs --- except for one very important computer that runs all of the Vienna Symphonic Library sounds (used primarily in scoring films). Our agency is a smattering of PCs and Macs, usually up to the user/employee to choose which they're most comfortable with.
Personally I think this whole "Macs are better at audio and graphics" is a bunch of crap. Back in the day, you could only get software to do the top-end work for Macs or Amigas (show your age). Now, basically every software application that is worthwhile is available for Macs and PCs. The Macs in our office don't out perform our PCs. Are they more stable? I think that's a bad term. PCs are more vulnerable to viruses because why would someone writing a virus target 10% of the market? That's a waste of time.
And while FCP is definitely the program of chose for feature length editing, anyone who's anyone has masterful skills in AfterEffects as well which is available for PC and Mac. FCP is good for cut and trim, if you want to do amazing work, you get into AE.
This post is obviously just my opinion. I personally think the iPhone is the best phone that's ever been produced and I will likely own one when my contract is up. I haven't played with the Droid but plan to before making a purchasing decision. I have an iPod touch and the interface is the most intuitive I've ever seen. The apps make it much more worthwhile to me than a Zune could ever be. I don't own a Mac and I probably never will. I don't hate Apple. I don't love Microsoft (quite frankly, being a web developer I HATE Microsoft b/c their browsers are pieces of shit and they upgrade philosophy is the most fugged up I've ever seen). I like PC's because I can build it from scratch using the most expensive or least expensive parts I want. I determine the expandability of my computer, not the manufacturer. I can get as much or little as I want out of it... and I can run a dual boot of Linux and be just as secure and stable as any Mac out there. With that said, I love the Apple OS interface and how it works. I think Windows 7 is the best so far, but it still sucks. Microsoft makes operating systems and software for idiots and I'm not one so them treating me like one pisses me off.
If Apple products weren't so damn expensive and stuck in a box, I'd probably own all of them. But Apple needs to open up all their products like they have the iPhone (with it's apps).
